The microwave works fine. was easy to mount and looks great. However, the bottom part of the handle came unscrewed within a week. Because the back of the screw is not accessible it cannot simply be screwed back on and will require a service call to GE. Doesn't give me high hopes that this microwave will last long. Time will tell.

I love the way this microwave looks and it matched the stove I bought. I read all the reviews prior to purchasing it, and thought it was the best choice. I was dissappointed that the first time I use it the plastic hooks that hold the metal rack inside melted off?! What the heck?!
I called the service line and they said since my bag of popcorn was so light on the rack, the hooks melted off??
They told me that the metal tray needs to be tooken out if nothing is sitting on it because the hooks will melt off? WHAT? That is the stupidest thing i've ever heard and I NEVER had to do this with any of my prior Microwaves.
They did send me replacement hooks out and I received them 2 days later.

This product only lasted 2 1/2 years. I have had coffee makers that lasted longer. Called GE and was told that it was no longer under warranty. They wanted $75 to just come out and look at it. Don't waste your money.

I had another GE Spacemaker which lasted 10 years, and I replaced that one with this one when it died. I was hoping the quality would be the same and boy was I wrong. This microwave heats so unevenly, part of a bagel will be frozen solid while another part too hot to even touch. Or with bacon part is overcooked and the other is raw. I even took a dish out, and part of the plate felt cool to the touch, and when I switched hands the other part was practically on fire and burned my finger tips. I am so disappointed not to mention aggravated, now I have to try to get it refunded or repaired. Uggggh..

Used the unit for exactly 2 yrs., then the message, "KEYPAD SHORTED--- SERVICE MAY BE NEEDED". Technician to just come is $95, Keypad/Control Assembly at GE Parts On-line is $206, plus actual labor-- cost tells me it's better to get a new unit. I expected more from GE. I noticed a lot of other reviews for the GE Spacemaker Microwave models breaking down within 2 years. Hope GE does something about this.

In 2001 I bought a GE microwave; shortly after installation I noticed a crack in the bottom of the door frame; by 2006 the crack was severe. I contacted GE; they said mine was the first complaint of this type and send a 'good will rebate' of $75 for the purchase of another unit. Fool that I am, I purchased another GE in Oct 2006, same model. About a year ago the door handle started coming loose; today the handle brok at the base where it's screwed in to the frame. I don't have kids, the unit was not abused. In searching other consumer sites, I see that other owners have had similar problems. This seems to be a manufacturing defect. I would stay away from GE.

Microwave stopped heating after a year and a half of use. GE only provides a one year warranty on their products (except for their Profile line). Found a number of other reviews on GE microwaves stating the same problem. GE wanted $100 plus parts and labor to send a technician out. Why would I spend $100+ on a product that is apparently poorly made? Will not buy any GE appliances again.
