Customer Questions & Answers

Why are there both required materials and optional materials for installation of dishwasher Model # GDT580SSFSS?

How do I know what to select for the optional materials? If I select everything plus the required materials and installation, I will be paying more than $230 for installation and extra materials. That seems rather high.
Asked by: Pedro
Hi Pedro The options include a installation kit, cord and installation as well as an extended warranty. You may purchase any or all or none of the options. If you plan to install yourself all you will need is the installation kit and the cord. Total cost $30.00 Mike,

Looking to buy this dishwasher. Has the door and door latch problem been corrected? Has this been the main issue for water leaks?

Asked by: inquisitiveK
I purchased this dishwasher beginning of December and first couple loads were fine, but now the door lock is very picky, sometimes it's latches first time and sometimes I have to adjust it a little bit, I liked my old dishwasher with the manual door lock you knew it was locked no questions asked. If it keeps acting up I will definitely have it replaced, for paying over $600 for a dishwasher it should have no issues what so ever.

How does this dishwasher do with cleaning unrinsed dishes?

Do you have to scrape or rinse your dishes at all in order for them to come out clean? Does the type of cleaning cycle you use matter in terms of dish cleanliness? Thanks!
Asked by: Lefty
Hi Lefty- Thanks for viewing our dishwashers! This model features our most advanced wash system featuring 65% more wash power delivered to each rack compared to previous GE models. The clean sensor uses laser technology that controls the wash selections by sensing water turbidity and measuring water temperature. It then adjusts the wash time, water temperature, water amount and number of fills for efficient effective wash performance. Also, it features a Steam option for use with heavily soiled and/or dried-on, baked-on soils. Three pressurized, full-coverage wash arms alternate between lower and upper racks and redesigned with more wash jets. You will not need to scrape/rinse your dishes. It features Piranha™ Hard Food Disposer with removable filter. The disposer pulverizes any food particles or cellulose solids that may bypass filtration. Thanks for reaching out to us. Enjoy!

I turn unit own but no water comes in

Asked by: Jeff
Hi Jeff- Thanks for your purchase! We are happy to provide assistance. Make sure water valve (usually located under the sink) is turned on. Make sure the door is firmly closed. Check the float switch. Remove Ultra-Fine filter and lightly tap the piece under the ultra fine filter that looks like a salt shaker. Replace the filter. See the Owner's Manual for details: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/c0/c0e547bc-af81-4bbf-b6c1-9f0f6f5da3a9.pdf- If the dishwasher still will not fill, service may be needed. No. Not that I saw it uses a fiberglass like material blanket for insulation.

My EG Adora dishwasher is displaying "IH" and will not start. What does that mean

Asked by: Susie
Hi Susie-this is Sue from GE Appliances. "1H" indicates 1 Hour. The Delay Start option lets you run the dishwasher when its hot water demands will not conflict with those of the family. It also lets you take advantage of off peak utility rates. On Touch Control models: Touch the Delay Start pad once for each hour of delay desired (1 to 14 hours). This time range varies from model to model. The number of hours delayed will be shown in digital time display and the control will automatically count down and display the remaining hours left before cycle starts. At end of the countdown, the dishwasher will start the selected program. Unlatching the door does not cancel the delay start cycle. On Mechanical Start models: Simply turn the dial pointer to the number of hours (1 to 6) desired for Delay Start. The timer will advance and automatically start the dishwasher cycle. Unlatching the door does not cancel the delay program. Thanks for checking with us!

Top Control Dishwasher in Stainless Steel with Stainless Steel Tub and Steam Prewash is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 2262.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Skip!!! Since day one this unit has given us issues. Leaks all the time from random spots around the seal and the latch on top barely keeps the door closed, causing it to pop open on almost every run. We keep a towel under it at all times. Plus side it cleans well and is very quiet. GE wanted to charge me for a new latch and seal. No thanks. Buy LG or Samsung. We also has issues with the matching gas range and fridge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very pleased I would recommend this dishwasher. and am very pleased with the unit. I installed this GE GDT580SSFSS by myself about two weeks ago. It was a tight fit for my installation but I made a plastic covering for the top/back/sides and it slid into place without the insulation snagging on anything. I recommend wearing work gloves because the metal edges underneath the unit can be sharp - I think this is like most other dishwashers. Performance wise, we are very pleased. We usually give our dishes a quick rinse before they go in the dishwasher because it may be 2-4 days before we run the dishwasher. When we do run the dishwasher, the dishes come out clean. We have used the normal cycle most of the time without the heated dry. On this setting, we find there is a bit of water on the bottom of the cups and what-nots. No biggie as I think this is what you should expect for a unheated drying cycle. My wife has used the heated dry option and that will dry everything - it does extend the cycle time but that's not and issue as we do our dishes at night. I set the rinse aid at 2 so maybe if I go up to 3 that might help dry the water when using the unheated normal cycle. The unit has both a hard food disposal and filtration. A hard food disposal was a must for me - I am not going to spend all this money and then have to clean out a filter. The unit is very quiet. You can tell it is running if there is nothing else going on but if the tv is on in the next room, or someone is talking in the kitchen, one would be hard pressed to hear the dishwasher running. The 2 color LED indicator is a nice addition to let one know the cleaning cycle is complete. The upper rack runners are riveted to the sides of the dishwasher and the rack held by a robust assembly to the runner. With this arrangement, I do not expect to have any problem with the rack attachment breaking as I have read occurs with some designs which use plastic clips to attach the upper rack to the dishwasher. The spoon/fork/knife organizer is nice and helps with getting them clean. It takes a bit more time to use it, but I am sure it helps ensure the items are well cleaned. One can lift the organizers out of the way if you prefer to just dump the items into the basket. I have not used the option, but the basket can be split into 3 parts. That might be useful if using the upper or lower rack wash option. I got the 5 year extra coverage, I think it was $125. I got it because of all the problems I have read about all dishwashers. On second thought I would not get the extended coverage because I doubt we will have any issues with this GE during the first 5 years. Any issues early on would be covered by the normal warranty. Oh well -- lesson learned. I spent a lot of time trying to decide on a dishwasher. They are an expensive item to buy and there are thousands to look at. I got a GE as it was rated as one of the more reliable brands by Consumer Reports. I strongly recommend looking at Consumer Reports dishwasher ratings before you buy. PS I also looked at the overall dishwasher weight. I went on the idea that the more the weight, the more metal etc used in manufacture of the unit which may help towards robustness/long life. Just a thought...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice looking but... I bought this dishwasher to replace my old (but still working) dishwasher. I wanted to upgrade to stainless steel which does look nice (everyone knows it is harder to keep clean). The problem is I just don't like the way the dishes and pots fit in it compared to my old one. I've had it now for several months and I'm still not getting used to it. It also seems to run a lot longer than my old one. Also, when using the short cycle, you can't use the temperature boost feature. The door opens clear to the floor and is kind of a nuisance to pick up to close it too. These are all things that you don't notice or can't find out until you use it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Dishwasher, Horrible Customer Service This dishwasher was delivered to me with a broken door. Had to wait a week to get a new dishwasher. That dishwasher died after about a month of use. When this dishwasher needs service you are stuck dealing with GE to fix it. The GE Service Technicians are completely inept. They have been to have my house four times now to "fix" my dishwasher each time saying they need to order a new part and it will take another week. I am still without a dishwasher. GE's customer service is horrible. They give you the run around and fail to actually give you answers or service. Stay far, far away from this dishwasher.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good so far I read through countless reviews on this website to make sure we purchased a good dishwasher. They hard to come by these days! I took a gamble with this one with so many mixed reviews. After 3 failed installation attemps (installed the wrong way, no correct hook ups on delivery truck) I can finally say that this dishwasher has no failed us yet. It is beautiful and cleans very well! You do have to make sure you do the heated dry option when you do the wash or else your dishes will be soaking wet when the cycle is complete, but it doesn't take rocket science to figure that out. Overall, so far it is working great and I would recommend. I will check up on it in a year:)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good Purchased this dishwasher to replace an aging unit from the 1990's. The GE dishwasher runs quiet and quite often can't even tell it is running unless you are looking at the indicator light on the door. So far it has done a great job in leaving the dishes clean and spot free. The adjustable top rack is very convenient for taller cups and glasses. Like most top-control dishwasher units, the display is difficult to see depending on the type of counter top you have. At the time of this review, we probably have had this unit for a month, probably 15-20 loads of dishes of various sizes and cleaning options, and it has performed nicely each time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent clean while very quiet This was a replacement for a brand new washer utilized by our builder on a new house. We were too late to influence the decision and had to make a change once we moved in. I am so glad we did. Not only is this dishwasher better at cleaning, it also has more capacity than the "new" dishwasher it replaced. The stainless steel tub also means it is much quieter as it washes. My only complaint (very minor) is that you can hear a faint electronic wine when it runs, but only if the house is quiet. I know that is very picky, so know that any normal household would not hear it. You also have the option to delay the start of the wash cycle until late at night, which would also make this a non-issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love/hate relationship Bought this dishwasher 2-3 years ago and was really happy with it until last week when it stopped working. We're pretty sure the circuit board is the issue because it freezes shortly after we push the start button - the washer stops, no other buttons will respond, etc. It won't properly start a cycle at all. We even have to flip off the power switch to the outlet (usually multiple times) and basically pray to get it started. So frustrating, especially because it's still so new! I've really been happy with everything else about it but it not working is a major problem.
