Why is there reside on my cups and dishes after wash cycle

I started out using the cascade gel detergent on the normal cycle twith boost temperature, steam and dry. The cups came out with a thick residue on the bottom that I cannot get off. I have to throw away my glasses because they are ruined now. I tried to use the cascade complete pods with the sensor cycle without power dry only steam and the plates came out with residue on the back of them. I posted pictures below of them. I don't know what I am doing wrong or if there is a defect with the dishwasher. Any suggestions to get this to stop happening? We have only had it for a week so it's disappointing.

Answer:
It looks like water is pooling on top of the dishes. I place our glasses at an angle so no water can set on the top during the dry cycle, and they come out clean inside as well even at an angle. If I don't, then this will happen with any washer on the planet. Also, rinse aid will for sure help this some and try and use Cascade Platinum detergent, it costs a bit more but believe me it is worth it. Read More

I know a lot of dishwashers say that they have a stainless steel tub and when you look inside, the very bottom of the tub is some kind of plastic. Can anyone verify that this one is fully stainless? Thanks!

It is one piece so... I'm taking an educated guess and say yes, it is stainless. Btw, the front is thus far the best stainless I have seen as it simply does not scratch easy at all.

Hi suz- This is Sue at GE Appliances. Thanks for viewing our GE Dishwashers! Yes, this model features a light and an audible End-of-Cycle Signal. The light stays on as a reminder that the dishes are clean. The light will turn off when the door is opened. The signal can be muted. Thanks for checking with us!

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 2058 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible purchase The catch mechanism for the door to this dishwasher stopped working after a year. We could get around this by holding the door closed until the cycle started. However, it has now been 20 months and it has gotten much worse -- the door slams down when we try to open it. We paid $100 to have a GE service tech come to look at and they didn't have the parts to fix it but estimated that it would cost over $500 to fix the door. The GE technician recommended that we just buy a new dishwasher. This is a terrible outcome after less than 2 years. June 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dishes are soaking wet, and I'm SO bummed! Hi am so mad at myself for letting the Home Depot guy talk me into buying this dishwasher. We have tried everything and still our dishes are wet. We have to dry everything before removing them, even after using booster cycles and adding drying time. It's too much money to pay to be this disappointed. We also hear the high-pitched whirring sound at a certain point in the cycle. Almost sounds like a microphone feedback. It lasts less than 30 seconds, but still is irritating. I would never buy this again. June 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product This replaced a 10 year old GE dishwasher that still worked very well but the rack rusted out. The new dishwasher is awesome, much better capacity, quieter and does a better job. We can fit at least 25% more dishes due the the bottom rack being solid with out the void in the middle for the washing arm the old one had. The top rack also accommodates taller glasses. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Phenomenal (better than Bosch) Dishwasher!! I have never been in love with a dishwasher, until now! We spent 1200+ on a different dishwasher before this one and it NEVER worked as great as this one does which is half the cost. This GE cleans perfectly, and everything comes out completely dry. Our relatives with Bosch's, a company which for some reason does not believe in heaters to dry their dishes, are VERY jealous of our new machine. They complain regularly about their dirty dishes and are actually talking about scraping their Bosch washer to get this GE after seeing how well it has worked for us. It loads easily, cleans everything, and dries everything. Sparkly clean (and dry) dishes EVERY TIME!. What more could you possibly ask for? Delivery was fast (2 days), installation was perfect and they hauled away the old machine for $15, what a great deal Good job Home Depot. (your direct competitor needed 10+ days for delivery, boooo!) Thanks GE and Thanks Home Depot. Great job all around! :) June 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do not buy! This dishwasher makes a continuous high pitched noise when washing dishes. We called in for service and they told us this is normal. This is for a brand new dishwasher we've been using less than an month now. Would not recommend this product. June 15, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Sorry We purchased this dishwasher GE GDT580SMF7ES We had problems from the first time we used it, first it was leaking at Front door, serviced, (we only use the dishwasher on the weekends), still leaking, another service call, okay now it is fixed, "so the service man said", still leaking, another service call, (now this requires 3 - 4 hours of our time, waiting for them) replace whole front door, then we could not get the Dishwasher to start, We called the store and wanted it Replaced, but they wanted us to try and have it fixed by the Service man, more time waiting for Service Tech, okay we got it to Start, which we find out is very very very hard to get it to start. Bottom line, Sorry we purchased this Dishwasher, the Door Locking Mechanism is very poor quality May 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product, bad purchasing experience Love the GE dishwasher. Great features, high quality, dishes come out clean with very little pre-wash. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean, dry dishes We have had this dishwasher about a month. I bought it after researching washers on consumer reports. I absolutely love it. It is quiet, attractive and does what it should. Dishes are consistently clean and DRY! I highly recommend it. June 9, 2016
