I tried many reverse osmosis systems in the past, unfortunately they produce and waste 3 cups of water for every 1 cup of drinking water. This unit works different than the other systems by placing the waste water back into the hot water line which can then be used throughout the house at the dishwasher, laundry or shower. I owned this unit for many years and I am very happy with its performance.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JustaPilot Great product but installation a little tedious
Following the Installation Instructions was going great until I got to the "Feed Water Supply" section. As the supply valve lines in my house are 3/8 inch connections, I had to refer to the Optional Installation 1 section, which is a mess!!
I had to go back to Home Depot to purchase an adapter hose and plug to make the 1/2 inch Water Supply Fitting (provided with the kit) work. (HD, why not just include a 3/8 inch Water Supply Fitting in the kit?).
The Installation Instructions should include using a blow dryer to heat the black 1/4" tubing for faucet installation as the tubing does NOT fit well onto the barb.
Installation Instructions should also include a section after Storage Tank Installation detailing how to disconnect each tubing (1 at a time) from the bracket, route the tubing throughout the installation area to avoid inadvertent snags and pulls, sharp corners, etc, then cut the tubing to fit and reinsert into the bracket. Once all tubing has been routed as desired, secure in place.
The last item is that the Pre- and Post cartridges are recommended for a 6 month change-out cycle, but there is no mention anywhere in the manuals explaining when the RO Membrane Cartridge should be changed out.
All in all, an excellent system once installed,,, very much worth the money. Installation would be much more straightforward if the kit included a 3/8" Water Supply Fitting and the instructions were a bit better.

This system was in our house when we bought it. It tasted great, but we couldn't figure out why we were going through 6000 gallons of water per month for 2 people. We took the whole system apart and found that even though the faucet was off, the system was constantly draining water and leaking because it was draining so much more than the drain line could handle.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by John Purchased 12/23/14 This is a average product.
I am 27 years old, Mechanical Engineer and have been doing rentals and income properties with my father beginning at age 14. My home is a 1977 built ranch style, on a farm property. I refuse to rent or purchase extremely expensive RO Units. Our nearest Home Depot had this unit for $209 not $279.
The unit comes with everything you need for installation. I would recommend that you also purchase a saddle clamp or saddle valve. This is what homedepot.com offers = Watts Model # LF A50 Internet # 202254838. Also if you want to hook your fridge up to the RO unit you will need a 3/8inch OD plastic tubing T-connector and 1/4"-3/8"OD plastic tubing reducer.
Tools needed, Power drill, long philips screw driver. plastic tubing cutter/side cutters, teflon tape, large channel locks, few zip ties, buck knive, lube, lighter, box o rags, and beers.
The installation takes 2 hours and includes finding all of the above tools and the clean up. I highly recommend that you only do a mock install and then turn the water on. You are guaranteed leaks and you will have to trouble shoot those leaks.
I used my buck knive and cut open the box and layed everything out. Followed the directions and installed everything as said but used a saddle clamp instead of the provided drain plumbing parts, for some reason my drain pipes are very short and i would have had to replumb all the drain lines to use what was provided. When I went to push the black hoses on the barbs they will only go on half way. Put some lube on the barbs and took a lighter and lightly heated the end of the black plastic tubing and then pushed them on. I cut the supply line to faucet and put in a 3/8" T connector, this hooks the RO unit to my fridge. At this point I was fully installed and i buttoned everything down, then turned the water on, it leaked all over. I recommend before you tighten down everything down that you turn the water on, make sure the faucets is held upright or the "air bubble air gap drain" wont work and it will leak. Use the manual to troubleshoot all the leaks. Don't trust that it was assembled in the factory correct either. Once you got all the leaks stopped button it down tight.
This unit has had the water on without leaks for 1hour and 20 minutes. You can hear the "air bubble air gap drain"" and the sound of running water in the sink drain. It is loud and annoying. I am hoping that is stops soon, and that this only occurs during the initial setup. You wont get water out of it right away, and it has not stopped draining water it might dry my well up over night. Thats where the beers come in.
The faucet is two pieces, the clamping mechanism for the base to sink mount is fine, but the handle and spout is held connected to the base by a below feasible size single set screw. I am forced to turn the handle and spout with extreme caution, I would never purchased this unit because of its handle and place it in a rental or area it may be abused by children or such. Surely to fail.
I plan to do some research on this "air gap" handle, I notice that HD sells a no air gap faucet with great reviews. I may be able to buy that and rig something up to get rid the noise it makes.
i hope this unit lasts for 6months or longer, and does not dry up my well from the constant flow of wasted water. I will have to update this review when the first of those events come.

I bought this product about a year and a half ago and after six months, the base of the faucet started to leak, so I contacted GE and I was sent a replacement base. Six months later, the base started to leak again, but by then, it was out of warranty and I was told that the replacement base cost was $55. This product is good, but certainly not reliable. The water tubes are slipped over the nipples at the base and apparently do not create a robust and lasting seal. Unfortunately, I found out about the leaks after the water had been leaking for a while, which meant extensive water damage to the cabinet underneath.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by mopugz Don't buy this...and don't buy GE!!
I bought this early November 2012. While it was a pretty good deal to purchase, filters get spendy - $50 every 6 months and then annually, you need to spend $125. It worked great for 15 months - water was fantastic. Just 2 days ago, the flow rate started dying off. Even though my filters weren't due for replacement for 75 more days, I chose to replace anyway, thinking maybe they were clogged. No such luck. It wouldn't even run the sanitization process that you do before installing new filters. I called GE, which by the way has the WORST customer service on the planet, and was transferred 6, yes SIX times before I was just given a number to call someone local. When I called a tech, he laughed when I told him what I had....stated that they break "all the time". Called another tech - he said the same thing! Don't waste your time. Find a better product.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Alek This product uses great technology, but replacment filters are way over priced.
For four people family I have to change filters every quarter. It is not possible to use inserts longer, because they plug to point of water not running any more (it was not a case in previous generation of revers osmosis filters). Also, generic filters can't be used - only manufacturers brand (they are expensive). Fountain mounted on the sink wobble no matter how many times you try to mount it (there is only one very small set screw holding it). Other than this system is easy to maintain and quality of filtrated water is great. I would recommend it only if you packets are bit dipper than averege.
