I've reviewed the answers here: one answer from GE says that the "door hinges are on the left and not reversible." The other answer from GE says that the door hinges are on the right" and not reversible. So, WHERE ARE the door hinges on this model? Thx.

Can the vent be taken out the side of the machine and not the back? I need to push it in closer to the wall.

I have a restricted space and need the machine to go back. Right now the vent is running form the dryer and holds the maching fromt he wall. I bought a GE a few years back and it had the option of running the dryer vent out the side of the machine.

Bear in mind that code may not allow you to vent to the side. In Miami, for instance, dryers now have to vented to the back. Apparently it's slightly safer that way, but it's a MAJOR headache if you're dealing with restricted space, and let's face it, anyone considering this unit likely is.
In the end, I couldn't find a stackable W/D that would fit into the 15yo closet and conform to the new code. Read More

In the end, I couldn't find a stackable W/D that would fit into the 15yo closet and conform to the new code. Luckily, my contractor solved it. He built a 3"-deep frame around the closet and attached the louvered folding doors to the frame. Voila! Instant 3" more depth to the closet. Painted and finished, it looks like it has always been that way. Read Less

Answer:
I have had my unit for a little over a month and my unit does not have a knock out available to vent out either the left of right side like my old unit had. It was installed vented from the back and my unit is about 4 1/2" from the back wall. That's about the best you are going to get as far as clearance. Hope this helps answer your question.

Unitized Spacemaker 3.3 cu. ft. Washer and 5.9 cu. ft. Electric Dryer in White is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 509.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute garbage My property has over 30 of these only 3 years old. Just this year I've had to replace 10. Leak from tub seal wrecks the barring and transmission. Worst product GE makes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 60% of the investment made twice Purchased two years ago and the chip board shelled out. Do not invest in this product unless you're prepared to make 60% of your original investment again in repairs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Space Saver, and quiet performance This unit, is a space saver, and it is all electric, vety quiet and works woth the 1/4 of water than the older models..

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a good experience The machine arrived with the knobs broken off the controls. New ones were ordered but when we installed them the controller for the dryer was displaced and caused the dryer switch to short out. The service tech was called and he replaced the switch but not the fuse which was also blown when the short occurred. He refused to replace the fuse and told me to find one from the hardware store in town. They were not available in the correct model so we continued to have a non-functional unit. Seems there is no one who carries GE parts in stock. We live in a 1.5 million plus town so that is surprising. This has been and continues to be a bad experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Capacity, Sturdy Functional Unit This unit appears well-made and durable. The location of the controls is particularly good for shorter persons and they are straightforward to understand and operate. The washer cycle is not the quietest I have experienced, but it is not at all loud. The spin cycle balance is good and only the smallest vibration is felt when standing near the machine during spin dry. Good size washer drum volume for an integrated unit and very adequate dryer volume. The installation technical instructions are clear, but there is an error in the diagram that shows the rough-in location of the dryer vent outlet. It is in the center of the unit, not to the side as the diagram shows.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Heads up... destroys clothes! Be careful with this unit. While the washer is great and the dryer works fine on the surface, the dryer will destroy anything with buttons, drawstrings, and zippers. It seems there is a design flaw with the lint filter. Buttons, zippers, and strings get stuck in there and twisted until they rip off. Hopefully GE will redesign this part. Our unit was delivered in 8/2011, so specifically ask if they have changed/improved this since then. Otherwise the unit is pretty good. We are in the process of get this replaced/repaired. Home Depot and GE so far both seem quite receptive to helping with this problem, but I will keep this a 1-star review until is it fixed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product has exceeded my expectations The GE washer/dryer works as well as any washer/dryer I have owned. It is the size of a regular washer/dryer just stacked. It does an excellent job washing and drying all my towels, sheets and clothes. Fabric dispenser and bleach dispenser are easy to use.Put detergent in before clothes or use liquid. For a stackable appliance I have to say it has exceeded my expectations. The dryer works fine and I am pleased with this purchase.
Date published: 2012-06-05
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I expected! I was not excited to get a stackable because all the ones I had seen were so small it looked like no more that 3 towels could fit inside the washer but our new apartment is not large and did not allow for our regular sized washer and dryer. I was so surprised the first time I looked in the washer. It is very close to the size of my old super capacity and so far I have had no trouble doing my regular loads of laundry.
