Answer:
You should have everything you need in the box. Just screw it on the pipe and the shower head on the end of the filter and you are ready to go.

Answer:
possibly Teflon tape to wrap around the thread on the pipe. Mine ended up being leak free without it but your experience may vary.
it doesn't come with a shower head but the end you connect the head to is standard. If your plumbing is standard...ie if the filter screws onto the pipe with out an adapter the head you used to use will screw onto the filter just fine.

I have also noticed I cannot find these or the filters at HD. So weird. I guess we will be ordering online unless they want us to shop elsewhere.

what type shower head works

I have a Delta shower head that is large and has a hand held attached to it. One of those fancy ones that were advertised and now wish I didn't buy. It cost too much to not use so it stays for awhile. Will this filter be strong enough to hold a large showerhead?

Universal Shower Filtration System is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very good buy What I like about this shower filter is that it has replaceable filter cartridges that are a good value. Also, the shower neck in our house is a little low and this filter raises the shower head a few inches up for me. But, I would recommend that you remove it from the shower neck when you change the filter cartridge. I broke one trying to change the cartridge while it was still installed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Performance, Poor Quality the shower filter works great. However, about every 18months, the housing fails and you have to buy the whole assembly. Its happened 3 times to me now. Might be looking to find something that lasts longer.!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from NOT CUMBERSOME AS SOME FILTERS needs 2 pairs of plyers, some plumber tape. and a few minutes to install

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Design flaw If you have a heavy shower head and/or adjust the shower head a lot, I would not recommend this filter. There is a small piece of plastic under the nut that is used to screw the filter on to the water line that is a weak point. The weight of your shower head and constant adjustment will cause that plastic piece to separate from the rest of the filter making your filter useless, not to mention leak water everywhere. GE needs to make this part out of metal. If you have a light shower head and do not move it a lot then you will have no problem with this filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used before, excellent, why not available in store? This product Is wonderful! We have use this shower filter before and it works very well in the hot desert of Arizona. The water here is so hard. It's hard on your body and your hair. I would recommend this shower filter to anyone who wants to have that her water. We had one before. Only sorry it was not available in the store across the street. We had to order it online. It is easy to put on. A small convenient size. Everything about it is just perfect. I would use it again and have recommended it to my friends.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheaply Made. Do Not Buy! As previous reviewers mentioned, there are design flaws. In order to keep it from leaking, you have to make it tight. But the nylon/plastic pieces where it connects are weak. I have broken three of these already. Not one has made it a whole year. They need to use better/stronger materials. Save your money and buy something else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor quality The filter did a great job of filtering our water. It made a huge difference in water quality. However, after only 5 showers the cheap plastic connections had started to come apart and it is now spraying water everywhere. The build quality on this thing is terrible. I would highly recommend finding a different unit or just spend a few dollars more and get a whole-house filter if you can.
