Answer:
Hi Steph B. the door bell push button mounts either using the screws or the adhesive double sided tape, that is supplied with the kit.
The chime itself has to be plugged into an electrical outlet and then you turn the switch on.

Hi Norm,

“Unfortunately, we do not have a specific measure to answer your question about the GE 19216. There are too many variables to account for (building construction and materials, hearing acuteness, and other conditions) in order to provide a specific measure. Generally, feedback offered to Jasco Products Company directly from consumers who have purchased this product indicate this chime can be clearly heard in small and medium sized homes. Should the unit be purchased and more sound needed, another unit can be placed in another part of the house to offer more sound to another area.”
Hope this helps. Read Less

Answer:
Greetings,
My name is Tom, also known as HD116 at Home Depot's How to Community. I am here today addressing a few product questions and saw yours.
I own one of these, and the button can be installed using two screws that are provided, or you could use exterior grade two sided tape.
Thank you for your question and sorry for the delay in response.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GE Plug In Wireless Door Bell-Works Great I previously owned one of these wireless plug in door bells but was unable to find a replacement button, nor could I find the same door bell in the local Home Depot stores. I preferred the plug in type to eliminate the need of changing batteries. I ordered this one online and I'm very happy with it. It has a slightly different look from my original, but works the same. I'm very happy with it. October 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product is great! I bought this product because it uses a larger battery, rather than button-type batteries as in most other products, which only last for a couple of months. I have been using this for less than 2 months, but I can tell that the battery will last much longer. The construction is of high quality as well. It is a great buy! April 30, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't work I bought two (for the front door and back door), and both of them don't work. When you push the button and you get no sound, You have to hold the button down to get it to work. And the sound from the units is very low, you can't heard them from another room away. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it...works perfect! HomeDepot shipped this very quickly, it was just as described, packed very well and I am very pleased. The wireless door chime sounds beautiful and is very easy to hear throughout my apartment. I will definitely purchase from them again when needed. Great transaction and great product. Thank you HomeDepot!!! October 11, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks slightly different but works great It does what it says and just set the switches to the ring tone pattern you prefer. They seem to have changed the way the ringer parts looks slightly; instead of being perforated it has curved areas but it looks the same size and the button looks the same. February 26, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very poor I'll need to take it off the door and visit a store for a replacement. The doorbell sticks, so once it is pressed, we hear the doorbell ring until we get it unstuck. I am not impressed October 16, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by cheap lasted about a year, button sticks and you had to hold in for a second or so for it to work March 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great door chime for a great price! Have had it for some time, great chimes, easy install, very happy I bought it. Purchased 2 from Lowe's previously (another make model and manufacturer) both were junk. This ones a winner! November 5, 2011
