I am interested in using this as a packaging filler, rather than bubble wrap or Styrofoam peanuts. Can anyone supply the expanded volume of one can?
Asked by: Mugwumps
It says it expands to about 3 times it's original volume, so I would imagine it's about 3 cans worth once expanded.

Is this waterproof

Asked by: ray
I found this product difficult to remove from anything it touches: skin, drywall, wood, fabric, hair. I have yet to find anything that removes it except acetone when it is still setting up. In my experience with this product, water definitely did not have any affect on it, wet or dried. I'm going back to get more of it because it fills gaps and cracks well and can be sanded when dry.

Can Foam sealant be used as a fiberglass bath tub base filler?

Can Foam sealant be used as a fiberglass bath tub base filler?
Asked by: Carlos
I have used foam sealant to fill the gap under a fiberglass shower in the past to firm up the pan. Remember, this stuff really expands, so don't over do it or you could get some damage to the fiberglass. It would be best done during new construction when you have lots of open areas for the expansion.

After watching a number of youtube videos on installing these types of tubes, one showed using this foam sealant instead of mortar bed or other material under the tub to give it stability. I sprayed this foam sealant on top of the felt pad under the tub. The tub went from feeling somewhat flimsy and not so stable to being very stable and solid. The only trick was having the tub ready for final installation prior to putting down the foam sealant. You have only a matter of minutes to level the tub, install the tub flange clips, connect the drain and overflow.Because the foam sealant expands so much, I filled the tub with water and let it sit for 24 hours so the foam sealant would fill in the gaps under the tub without changing the tubs leveling.. It worked great.

They really ought to be monitored by Dow to get the correct information out about their individual products. Here are some "FACTS" about this product: Great Stuff Big Gap Filler Expanding Straw Foam 20 oz High quality expanding urethane foam designed to fill large areas quickly and permanently. Uses include filling holes, cracks, or gaps that require a complete airtight and waterproof seal but are too large to be filled with ordinary caulk. The foam expands approximately 3 times its original volume, is tack free in approximately 45 minutes, and fully cured in 12 hours. Dispensing apparatus included with each can. UL classified. No CFC's. Features: 20 oz,For voids larger than 2",expands 60%,1" equal to R5 value Forms a permanent weather-tight seal to minimize drafts and insect infestation Bonds to wood, drywall, metal, masonry, glass, and most plastics, Interior/exterior use Tack free in six minutes-trims in 30 minutes,Foam elasticity allows for movement/shifting within a structure from winter to summer Paintable, stainable and sandable, Cures rigid, UL classified. Differences Between Latex and Polyurethane Foam Sealant There are two key differences between latex foam and GREAT STUFF polyurethane foam sealant: Latex foams are typically "open cell" and, as a result, can take on water. In fact, the same properties that allow you to wash latex foam off your hands with water also mean that the cured foam can absorb water. This can cause wood rot or deterioration in areas where wet latex foam is next to wood, such as a window frame. In contrast, GREAT STUFF is a closed-cell foam. It forms a water-resistant outer skin when cured. Latex foam does not expand. GREAT STUFF expands to thoroughly fill all voids and cavities making it an ideal air sealant.

In the past they had a very flexible straw to dispense the product, this new fancy straw, well I bent it a little bit while dispensing and the tube cracked, sending foam all over the project area and my hands, creating a great deal of cleanup, and wasting about half the can because I cannot dispense it any longer The product is great, the can dispenses upside down, and with the tube not flexing didn't work well for me

It's very easy to over use though. Use less than you think you need because this stuff expands fast and is not easy to clean off of surfaces. Once this stuff settled though, I couldn't feel a draft coming from the cracks any longer!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from worked great Had pipes from an old pool room with air and bugs coming in. Filled pipe and loved the nozzle that shut off to eliminate drizzle after. The only problem I had was when I tried to push nozzle it was enough to bend dispense valve and let out more material, hold by nozzle when pushing end closed.
