Product Overview

GREAT STUFF Fireblock Insulating Foam Sealant can save much more than energy costs. By sealing the pipe, cable and duct penetrations, you minimize airflow. During a fire, that means flames, harmful gasses and toxic smoke cannot spread as quickly. And in an emergency, that could make all the difference. The fact that it helps you conserve energy, reduce drafts and save on heating and cooling costs is great too.

  • Impedes spread of fire and smoke through service penetrations
  • Recognized as an alternate fireblocking material for residential construction; tested according to ASTM E84, ASTM E814 (Modified), UL 1715
  • Seals service penetrations between floors and electrical runs through wall studs
  • Airtight, water-resistant and has exceptional adhesion to building materials
  • Tack free in 6 minutes; trims in 30 minutes; cures rigid in 8 hours
  • Bright orange colored foam for easy code identification
  • All-direction dispensing

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Great Stuff Dow's Great Stuff performed just as it said it would and exceeded my expectations for use, functionality, & drying time. Feel good a/b using the fireblock sealant as well. Great Stuff Dow!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never use for fire blocking purposes. how misleading is this? by reading and educating yourself youll see this has an igniting temperature of 240 degrees. regular wood has a higher ignition temperature. Dow Corning is betting on you just thinking it can block all kinds of says "fire block" on the label so it must be true......WRONG!!! the only thing different about this and their expanding foam is orange dye. this is an approved material to use per building codes if not used to block actual fire.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works like the other spray foams I'm not exactly sure what the advantage is for buying this over normal spray foam. According to the lable there isnt any difference in fire proof or retardency - they are all flamable. Had I paid more attention, I would have purchased the normal spray foam for a little less money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wear gloves! Try to use all during one session. The cans are a little expensive, but they are great for filling up the required space to prevent fires from spreading. Do NOT get it on your hands/wrist/clothes.. or you will be sorry. Wear those recommended gloves!!! I can attest that Krud Kutter is best to take out on the hands ;) though you will need a scrubby or something to get the job done totally. (I followed that up with Working Man's Hands and the result was awesome - can't say the same for the clothes) I say to use all during one session because you will lose some if you leave it in the can or in the nozzle for the next session and it is pricey. Overall, though, very good!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This product should not be used as a fire stop -- to meet building code requirements DOW advertises this product as a "fireblock", and HD specs say that it is "Fire Block Rated". The bright orange color is also supposed to highlight this "fireblock" version of Great Stuff for inspectors. As a result, many homeowners and contractors believe that it can be used as a standard fire stop required by the IRC (International Residential Code) and building codes in every state in the USA. The IRC and state building codes do NOT list ANY foam as an approved fire stop material, however. If your home inspector is sharp, he / she will not approve it -- and you will be forced to remove the foam and replace it with an approved material. I hope Home Depot and DOW clarify the standards this product actually meets, and where it should be used -- on behalf of their customers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well Used the product to seal wires coming through the sill. Easy to apply and a very effective seal. Since it does not expand too quickly or too much it was ideal for the use and behind lath, it did not push the lath out of line too much - that was manageable. Only problem that we had was that one can's tube broke off during use and made application a challenge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use with great results Bought a house recently with lots of drafts. Have used Great Stuff in the past, but wanted the one with Fireblock since I have kids and want as safe as possible. Using Ruxol insulation combined with Great Stuff Fireblock for ultimate protection. Goes on easy like typical Great Stuff. No more drafts and feel safer and it is also quieter. Big complaint in the past if that you can only use once. However, I found the straws online from a company called "XtendaFoam Nozzles". At about $1.50 for 2 pack of straws it really saves you money. Just wish Home Depot carried the straws as it would be a very popular item. Hint Hint.
