How do you clean the Pro 14 gun

Using foam is a messy process and once dried is a mess in itself. How do you keep the gun from getting plugged up and if it does do you have to throw it away? Thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
I spray the tip and nozzzle with the gun cleaner and wipe off with a rag. If the foam dries on the end I used a utility knife to scrape off.

Can you use 16 oz regular Great Stuff cans with a Pro Gun?

Can you remove a can and reattach later on?

I have read reviews that state you have to use up the can you have attached to the gun. If you remove and try to use again later it will not work. I am looking to get this for some of my team to use but I do not want to buy a gun for each can they may have to use completely.
Asked by: 4line
Not really. It is designed so you can leave the can attached and ready for use up to thirty days from last use to help prevent wasting foam like the disposable ones. For long term storage without use for longer than 30 days, you need to removed the foaming can and clean the gun with the cleaning can/solution, which is really only pressurized acetone.

Where do i find more tips for the Pro 14 foam gun

Asked by: Anonymous
Not sure what tips you're looking for as it's pretty self explanatory. Unfortunately, currently there isn't much out there as far as techniques for use. As far as laying a nice bead of foam, keep nozzle at an angle if possible and draw the gun with consistent speed to match the amount your dispensing.

I will never buy any other foam product now that I have this gun. Adjustable to a dribble and opened up to fill the largest of cracks. let it set for 30 days, walk over and give it a good shack, pull the trigger and walk away for another 3 months. Good as new! Wear gloves, because the foam stains your skin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will never install spray foam without it I was insulating a cathedral ceiling with rigid foam and needed to foam the gaps. The cost difference between this gun and its "pro" can and the regular cans seemed like a no-brainer - 2 hours, 3 regular cans, and a mess of epic proportions later i bought the gun and wish i had from the get go. It cuts off as soon as you let go of the trigger which allows you to put the foam exactly where you want it. It holds the can upside down even when foaming overhead which keeps the foam flowing. Lastly, it controlled the mess. If you have a lot of foam to install its worth the investment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can't last a month. I like the Foam from the gun it is much better controlled than out of the can and it goes a lot further. My problem boils down to this there has never been one of these that we haven't had to clean after each use. I own a contracting company and we use these a lot. Unfortunately I spend more on the cleaner than the glue because they have to be cleaned after every use or the foam will set up inside of them. I've tried leaving the can attached before and the next day the gun was seized. I don't mind the gun and when cleaned after use it functions well; I mind the company and putting forth this obsured idea that they can last 30 days. Moreover I waste foam as about 1/3 cans removed with foam in them seize up and prevent reuse even when cleaned. This is a decent item for production but everything else sucks.

I followed the instructions exactly as stated. I actually went through more cans of the cleaning solution then the foam cans itself. Stored it properly as instructed and for some reason it seized up and cannot get foam to dispense now. The warranty is horrible and customer service is even worse. I expected more for the price and more from Home Depot to sell quality items. This gun should be in stores like Harbor Freight, Cheap, but expected to break. I highly DO NOT recommend this brand or foaming gun. I am going to try a different brand and hope I have better results. Hopefully , this helps you avoid the mistake like I did.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Save your money! Worked great for the short time that it worked. I used the gun cleaner religiously but still it seized. The gun is clean as a whistle but the threaded piece that holds the can to the gun stopped working - foam can't get through no matter what I do. Tried calling Dow (almost impossible to get a person by the way, I had to pretend that I had a health issue with Dow products), but they don't offer replacement parts. The warranty is only 30 days too which tells you how much they believe in this product. I guess they expect you to buy a new gun every 30 days.

If you're doing more than a small one-shot project, this is definitely the way to go. Easier to use, way more cost effective, and you have 30 days to finish off the can once you start using it. I only wish I had discovered this product sooner!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tool but don't remove half used cans! I apparently didn't read the instructions and dutifully pulled off the cans (partially used) as needed and cleaned frequently... Basically I got build up in the gun and have disassembled and cleaned it once, but now I have permanent blockage as the needle (teflon coated) has accumulated gunk. Basically air is the enemy of this gun, so if you use the cleaner and then blow it out the foam will dry on the needle and you'll have it only for a short while before having to replace it. If I had read these reviews or the instructions more carefully maybe I would have had a better experience. My mistake, hopefully someone reads this and follows the guidelines better. Also it's nearly impossible to seal upside down as the cans have to be in the downward position, for most applications you're sealing stuff below you, but if it's a tight fit the giant cans can't be tilted much or they lose all their gas and you're left with a slow ooze. I had great availability at my home depot in Northern NJ for the large and small expansion cans as well as the cleaner which I used way too much because of my mistake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good Very happy with this product. The cans are expensive seeming but they seem to go a lot further and the foam sets up much more quickly than the regular cans. Also you have tremendous control over the rate that the foam comes out. Not hard to write your name in 1/4" or narrower foam bead. The cans can be somewhat tricky to put on, so make sure you have the threads perfectly straight as you put on the can. It can be a little tricky to use overhead as the can gets in the way sometimes. Warning: Check the expiration date on the can. I think that may be part of the problems that some people have had with this. H D is not very aware of expiration dates
