Bought the unit last August, it seemed to operate OK at first. Within 3 months, it stopped working well, and my energy bill jumped. Then Winter came and I didn't use it, had it serviced in spring, and they found the controller board was bad. Not only did it take 2 weeks to get a replacement from GREE, the technician had a really hard time reaching them.
Well we have replaced the board 3 times now, it still doesn't work. Home Depot is refusing to take it back, being over 90 days, GREE is unreachable, and won't return calls, won't return emails, no communication from them.
I saved $1500 by getting this unit instead of getting a Mitsubishi or Fujitsu, and I am pretty sure that I will have put more into this unit, and then still 6 months later will have to buy a NEW unit to replace this one.
So, Buyer Be ware... This is a junk Chinese product, with no real support in the US, no customer service, so definitely get the extended warranty if you decide to risk it.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Woodworker One year check up - definitely some issues
Have owned this for one year. Installation was in a converted garage stall made into a wood shop. Unbeknownst to me, the unit had been dumping water out the front as the drain was clogged with algae. I didn't see this at first so now I have a mold issue to clean up. So if you own one of these in the south, you will need to wet vac out the line at least once per year from the drain outside. There is no real great way to clean out the unit from inside. You can't get to the water collection area easily and if you want to clean out the line from the top you will need a few folks to help lift the unit out of the way while you disconnect the drain line that is concealed in the wall. Also, there is mold growing in the unit itself which is hard to get at to clean. Ideally, the unit 1) would have shut itself off when the water began to overflow and 2) would have an easy way to clean out the line from the top. My initial post noted the unit had numerous refrigerant losses upon installation by an HVAC tech. One year later, having to call in the troops again. Initial cost is a value but add in maintenance and I think is a losing proposition.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Sam1 Not ready for prime time poor customer support and poor manual
I bought this product back in June of 2013 and I've had it now running for over a year. Twice the unit has leaked the 410A and needed to be reached due to a leak. The unit is also leaking water out the front right side on the air handler (the piece inside the house that blows out the air). I checked the drainage and that's not the issue as the water is coming out the side opposite to where the drainage hose is located. This was installed by a licenses HVAC tech however the costs add up for the 410A and trip charge for the tech. The good is I bought a Home Warranty for this unit after the first issue happened. So now its only a $75 charge and the 410A or whatever else is wrong with it is covered.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Spartan Ultra Efficient
I wished I would have bought one of these along time ago. I had a Profesional A.C guy install it and it works great. I almost bought a 2 Ton and would have over done it. The 1.5 Ton is Super Efficient. So glad I found it, I definitely recommend it. The Gree is made by Carrier.

One review here mentioned a water leak at the air handler. I just serviced a unit that had this problem. The problem was a section of the line set was exposed and condensation was forming and leaking down the wall. The fix is to wrap foam tape around the exposed copper line. The thing that worries me about this Unit is the Lines have threaded fittings instead of brazed connections. They are more prone to leak.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Woodworker Not bad but has some issues
We have owned this unit now for about two months. The first month the unit was out of service as the installer had a difficult time with the coolant connections. Twice the coolant leaked out and had to be refilled. The unit had an error code that was not listed in the manual but the servicer was able to figure out the issue. Once the coolant leak was stopped, the unit has worked fine. I can't say if this was a poor install or poor design. But I can say that the HVAC installer was an HVAC tech - not me or a friend. Also, the tech did not have much experience installing these unit types.
The unit is very quiet and cools quickly and appears to have many features. Buyers need to be aware of two issues. First, the manual is not written well and there are literally whole sections that make no sense. There are several features that I can't even figure out for sure what they do even after reading the manual. Second, when I called the service/support line on a week end all I received was a busy signal. In a nut shell, poor documentation and poor support. The mini-split concept was a perfect application for what I was doing (a home work shop) but I am not sure this brand is yet ready for prime time. I am a little surprised that Home Depot did not vet the product/vendor better before offering the product. One read of the manual and/or a quick call to the help line and I doubt they would have decided to carry the product. Especially surprising given the price point. Note that I paid roughly $1,500 for installation on top of the product price.
