Product Overview

GRK Fasteners RSS screw is made from Climatek coated and hardened steel. Its sharp threads and point bite instantly into material (including hardwood), reducing the splitting effect caused by smaller shanks. Its washer type head has no sharp edges like conventional lag screws, and the added shoulder underneath the washer has the ability to center the RSS screw in predrilled hardware.

  • Ideal for ledger boards and more
  • Self-tapping
  • W-cut thread design
  • May be used as a lag screw alternative

Customer Reviews

5/16 in. x 5-1/8 in. Rugged Structural Screw (40-Piece per Pack) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Move over lag scews! These are a GREAT replacement for either lag bolts or screws! Simple and strong! Real easy way to attach a 4x4 to 2x4 stock, or vica versa! When attaching 4x4's to 2x4's I usually used a lag screw, which meant I had to drill both pieces being joined. With GRK wood fasteners, I let the self-tapping system do the work for me! Easy and QUICK! If you are doing outside construction, these are a time saver! Try them, I am sure you will like em!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much Preferred Over Lags The first part: I used these to tie 4x6 PTs sills on an outdoor air-drying 'kiln'. The 5 1/8 length includes 1/8 of the head; after countersinking the heads 2" into the wood [leaving ~ 1.5" of meat], they aggressively drew up the other member [about 3" of end grain]; no splitting, no predrilling; easy to drive with my 18V impact drill and the provided T-30 bit. While I'm not sure why the 'shear' rating shown on the in sert is a function of the screws length [?], I'd have no qualms about using these to secure 2x beams to 6x shouldered posts. They're rather lightweight when compared to galv lags. The second part: coating cl;aims to be compatible with 0.40 pcf ACQ-D and CA-B materials [lifetime guarantee] ... but will I ever know. Made in Taiwan for a Canadian company. I'll buy again for those 'special' apps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from these are great screws that tighten well in even softer, older wood and stay tight I used these screws in older wood making horse barn, they grabbed well and tightened up without pulling through

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good screw and worth the price Since I discovered high-tech screws, I have mostly stopped using lag-screws or abusing drywall screws. The funny shape heads and threads really do go-in and hold better. And after a fling with a lower-price brand, I am back to favoring GRK. On my saggy garage roof repair, the low-price screws my helper picked didn't want to start, didn't want to go where aimed, slipped on the bit, and didn't feel firm. These GRKs go in and HOLD. They have near the strength of lag-screws, cost slightly less so you can use an extra, and don't split lumber the way lag-screws can. Self-washered too.
