Any downside to using these to fasten shed paneling to studs in visible (center) areas so they aren't as visible as nails or decking screws (outside border and other areas covered by trim I would use regular decking screws to attach)?

Answer:
Thanks, they seem to work well and are hardly visible even before painting. My concern was with hold and durability against elements (rust, corrosion, etc..), so hopefully they will hold up for the life of the shed.
In the attached photo you can see the larger decking screws I used for the fascia and around the panel borders, but barely notice the trim screws I used in the center of the panels.

There is no downside at all to using these screws for that application. The Trim Head Screws carry code approvals for both structure and use in treated lumber. This means they will hold up well in the application you have mentioned. Depending on the paneling you are using you may want to predrill a small pilot hole if it is hardwood. Answer:
GRK FIN/Trim screws are designed with features such as the W-Cut and Zip-Tip to avoid the need for predrilling, however if you are concerned about the splitting of the material, predrilling a hole roughly 70% of the shank diameter is all that is needed. For the #8 x 2 ½” FIN/Trim screws you would need a 5/64” bit. It is a little over 70% of the shank diameter so if this is a structural type application Read More

For the #8 x 2 ½” FIN/Trim screws you would need a 5/64” bit. It is a little over 70% of the shank diameter so if this is a structural type application I would drop a bit size to the 1/16” but for all other types of work the 5/64” is the way to go. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love these Screws! I was amazed when I first used these screws. The special bit needed (included), works so much better than Philips head. I found them to be very strong even when removing and re-drilling them several times. April 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice finishing screw with great gripping power! This was my first time using this product and I was very pleased with the results it gave me. I used this screw to fastened red oak stair treads along with using a urethane adhesive and the combination gave me the solid, no squeak fit and finish I was striving for. February 6, 2013
