Product Overview

GRK’s R4 Self Countersinking screw has 6 self-contained cutting pockets which act like a router and transport the drill dust away from the edge of the screw hole. They also widen the countersink hole only around the head shape. The screw head top closes the hole exactly, leaving no damaged fibers around the wider area of the head.

  • For use in wood, particle-board, cement fiberboard, plastic, sheet metal
  • Self-tapping
  • No pre-drilling
  • No stripped heads

Can these screws be used in framing as in sheds and small portable type cabins? I used them on a pen i'm building for goats and I am sold on these the only thing that I experienced was minor chipping on the surface of the wood. I love these screws just making sure I can use them in framing before I plan out my new project. Thanks.

Isn't this a #9 x 2-1/2" Screw?

This is a #9 x 2-1/2" not a 9" x 2-1/2" screw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy these screws. No seriously BUY THEM! These came reccomended to me by a local contractor/carpenter. He said they are the best screws he's ever used and now he refuses to buy anything else. Ever slipped off a long screw going into a 2x4? Won't happen with these. Ever had to keep turning up the clutch on your driver drill to get them installed? Try your 50% setting with these and it's probably good enough. I'm telling you he was right. These screws are nothing short of amazing to use! It's like screwing into foam rubber or something, you literally will be blown away how easy these go in. They have a self drilling type tip and smooth flights. Incredible product. Period. Now I won't be buying anything else. You can kiss your headaches with fasteners goodbye after you use these, yes they cost a few pennies more per screw but trust me it is totally worth it! Don't over look the importance on your project of using top notch fasteners, it will literally save you time and energy. Tom S. (Engineer) Itasca IL

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are fantastic! One of the Home Depot's hardware guys turned me on to these several months ago and they are absolutely amazing. I use them now exclusively for outdoor home repairs, and also for assembling custom redwood furniture. I've done a chaise lounge, and a number of outdoor tables using redwood 2x4s, and they work flawlessly for this purpose. They are attractive, strong, and when combined with some weatherproof outdoor glue they can't be beat. I used the 2 inch, 2 1/2 inch, and 3 inch versions of this bugle head screw and have never had a lick of trouble with any of them. I highly recommend them. One other thing-- the previous commenter talked about the length being short. I measured all of mine and they are dead on, but it should be noted that all flat top countersink type screws are measured from the top of the head, not beneath it. When measured that way, at least for me, they are all exactly as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Design Used these #9 x 2-1/2" screws to install a set of old cabinets in my garage. The T-25 Star Bit Head(bit is included) worked as expected, not one screw slipped resulting in zero Stripping. The CEE Thread design did not cause any cabinet or strapping splitting and the cutting pockets did in-fact act as a router and transported the drill dust away from the screw hole. Each screw head countersunk perfectly(as advertised)!!! The cabinet install came out great and these screws worked perfectly. The only issues were: 1. The screws measured 2-3/8" not 2-1/2". I was fortunate to have some 3" screws(#2 Square Bit) on hand where needed. 2. The "Easy Start Zip-Tip" did not work well on the inside of the cabinets as the surface was very hard. I would not consider this a con! I simply drilled a short starter hole first. I also pre-drilled holes on the cabinet face to screw the cabinets together. GRK does make a screw for Cabinet installing which is a thinner screw with a smaller head. This screw might have started easier but since it was in the garage I wanted the #9's instead. I will use these screws again for sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I had begun using these screws years ago. Simply the best construction screw you will find. The price is premium and these screws are very premium. The end result is a professional look that my employers are always happy with. Torx head = no slipping. I have gone through thousands of these screws and have yet to snap one. Nothing but good to say about these well designed screws.
