Product Overview

The Gama Sonic Windsor solar outdoor light fixture model GS-99F is the perfect energy-saving and money-saving replacement for post-mounted electric or gas-powered outdoor lighting. This rust-resistant cast-aluminum solar lantern, which features a stylish, classic design with a powder-coated black finish and real glass panes, fits any existing 3 in. Dia lamp post with no electrical wiring needed. Just install it, and let the sun do the rest. The Windsor's internal Lithium Ion battery packs charge when sunlight hits the fixture's integrated solar panels. At dusk, 11 bright-white LEDs will turn on automatically and in high-brightness mode will shine at 150 Lumens. The fixture is designed for dusk-to-dawn performance when the battery packs have been fully charged. If there's not enough sun to fill the batteries to capacity, switch the brightness to low mode to extend duration. In either mode, Gama Sonic's patented cone reflector enhances the light output and glow. Beyond providing a superior combination of light brightness and duration, Gama Sonic solar light fixtures are known for their physical durability. The Windsor's six monocrystalline solar panels are infused in tempered glass, which can be easily cleaned with a warm cloth. The light's replaceable, plugged battery packs are good for about 1,000 charges. For any unexpected issues, Gama Sonic support at our Atlanta headquarters is here to help.

  • Easy solar DIY solution: light fixture come with all hardware needed for mounting this unit anywhere you choose where ample sunshine is available

How secure is this light?

I'm looking for a light to replace the old electric light at the end of my driveway. The old light had broke at the base so that it was leaning over and was being held on by the wires. It still worked fine so we were planning on rewelding the bottom and fixing it but last night someone cut the wires and took the light. They even took the piece that slides on the pole which had broken off. So I don't want it to be easy for someone to walk by and slide it off. Would it be possible to put screws on the bottom into the pole to keep it on the pole?

Answer:
The light is secured to the 3" post with three small screws in the lamp's bottom sleeve. I would assume that, if you wanted to prevent someone from removing the screws and stealing the lamp, you could simply use irreversible screws instead of those that come with the lamp.

How long will regular LiOn batteries last in these LED lamps and will they work instead of rechargeable or can I retrofit a small solar panel perhaps 9 feet away from a lamp to be in more sunlight? we are considering changing our gas lamps at our subdivision entrances with solar but some locations are partially shaded by trees and vegetation.
any suggestions??

Hi Thomas, thanks for your question and your interest in Gama Sonic solar lights. Unfortunately, you cannot replace the included rechargeable battery with a conventional one. Hi Thomas, thanks for your question and your interest in Gama Sonic solar lights. Unfortunately, you cannot replace the included rechargeable battery with a conventional one. As for rigging an external solar panel, some of our fixtures do come with external panels. But for those like the Windsor that don't, I can't recommend modifying the units to rig up external panels in place of the integrated ones. While you could attempt to do so, it would be at your own risk and would void the warranty. I am sorry I cannot offer a better solution. If you're concerned about the amount of sun the fixtures would get, solar lights might not be the best option for the location. Please let us know if you have other questions. We're here to help.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works better than I expected! I have two existing post lamps that have seen better days. I initially tried to replace them with similar hard-wired lamps, but found the circuits were dead (must have been a break in the lines somewhere). Rather than going to the expense of hiring an electrician and replacing cables, I was happy to discover these solar powered lamps. I was a bit hesitant at first, but after installing them I couldn't be happier. They have two brightness levels (brighter level runs for a shorter period of time) and on/off switches. I operate them on the lower level, which seems pretty bright. The nice thing is they automatically come on at dusk, run all night, and don't use any electricity. A bit pricey - less expensive models are available - but well worth it. September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good The best thing about this light is it was totally assembled and ready to simply place on my 3" lamp pole. This is the 4th night I have had it operational, and while it is not as bulky or as bright as all the other lampposts in the neighborhood, it definitely does the job. It is still lit at 3 a.m. I have not tested it beyond that time. Time will tell if it lasts but so far I am very pleased with it. One of the other review criticisms was that theirs had gotten wet and stopped working. This one seems to be sealed where it needs to be around the top, so again time will tell. I was a little unsure about the 2 year warranty advertised on the box, since there is nothing inside the box that mentions it. I did purchase the Home Depot extended warranty as an added protection, but I would like to have something in writing from the company about the initial warranty. August 2, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Windsor Solar Exterior Light Twice the price in order to get 150 Lumens and its still not bright enought May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent power in batteries Best Solar light I have ever had.stays light till dawn March 7, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Nice looking solar lamp. Upon installation, the plastic dome covering the LED lights inside came loose and landed on the cone. No big deal, but I had to unscrew the top and put it back in place. The top was a very snug fit on my existing post (old gas lamp post) and I would prefer that it sit further down onto the post than it does but I made it work. It has a nice light at night and I haven't even used it on the brightest setting yet. I do like the product. My only other complaint is about the metal pieces that hold the glass panels in place. On mine, some of the metal had rough edges and when I cleaned the glass panes I cut my finger. Poor quality control. All in all, the lamp does the job and it is solar so I do like the light. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice addition to the drive-way I have the lamp on the south-side of my house and I live in Arizona, so the solar panels get plenty of sunshine during the day. It does not give off too much light, which is okay, since I live in a city with too much light pollution anyway. It stays on all night; the solar panels work well. December 17, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good quality Perfect accent light for the end of my driveway. I replaced an old gaslight that had been out of service as long as I have owned my house. Not a tremendous amount of light, but even on high it generally lasts all night. October 21, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Enough We wanted a solar lamp for our post lamp at the end of our driveway. The light is beautiful but not as bright as we hoped. We even bought the one with 12 lamps instead of 6 lamps which was $100 more thinking it would be really bright. It serves it's purpose. I don't think any solar lamp can be as bright as a regular light. It's good enough though. February 21, 2013
