Customer Questions & Answers

Will this product harm the birds, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits in my yard?

Asked by: Froglady
No, that is exactly why I feel comfortable in using this in my house and yard. Diatomaceous earth appears in many food stuffs, and wouldn't hurt to take internally (there is a 'food grade" type, which this is not) but rest assured that it is made of such small particles, it would not harm any but the bugs who try to maneuver through it! It works on snails and slugs as well, you can imagine how uncomfortable a slug would be rolling in sand or rough surfaces, that's how this works! I keep squirrels and chipmunks as well, so I wouldn't steer you wrong!

can i use on animals for flea control

Asked by: trucker
You may want to check with your vet on that. Even if it did kill the flea, it would do so long after the flea bite your dog and laid its eggs. So I think you really wouldn't be accomplishing any relief for your dog. I use it in my chicken coop and run to take care of the mites - but their action on the chicken is very different from a flea.

I recommend buying something to help with applying it. Also difficult to clean up. The vacuum motor burned out trying to clean up the dust and it kicked back the dust all over everything in the room as high as on top of picture frames, so a lot of clean-up in addition to the floor. Regret buying.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't work It didn't work on the ants, which is why we bought it. In fact, they just built over where we put it. And weather didn't affect it because it didn't rain for a week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This stuff is so interesting! There are a multitude of uses for diatomaceous earth! I have heard of so many uses for diatomaceous earth, and more uses appear on the internet daily! The main reason I wanted to try this is to keep my house plants free of those little bugs that they sometimes have, you just sprinkle a bit on the top of the soil, and the very rough edges of the stuff will kill the bugs, with little if any side effects of its use. Once you water the plants again, you may want to put in another pinch, as the water may wash the diatomaceous earth through the soil to where the bugs can't find it. It is relatively harmless to other forms of life, so you can use it through the house as well, if you have fleas or such. It also appears in many food stuffs, so no harm comes from its use!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Death to the garden killers!! My wife's raised garden boxes have been plagued the last two years with all sorts of garden destroyers. We are hoping that diatomaceous earth and other organic gardening boosters will help our garden produce a good crop of whatever variety gets planted this summer. Last year three of our four garden boxes was decimated in a matter of 2 days from aphids, and I am hoping that this really helps when we are able to plant our boxes this spring. I do wish this was sold in my local store to make it easier and quicker to get, but shipping was pretty quick.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No idea I have no idea if it works or not. I have heard this stuff recommended hundreds of times on the local news garden segment. I don't like the idea of spraying poison around because I have cats. I hope this stuff keeps the crickets, ants, and cockroaches away. That's about all I can say for now. Will review again once I see if it works. I think it is worth a try.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from cheap and works I'm using this product to combat bedbugs. Though I'm still battling, I've noticed bites have decreased. In the process of this fight, I've noticed I'm winning the war with cockroaches, even though i didn't buy this product for that reason! I'm confident as long as i keep up the steady applications, the bug I'm targeting will eventually disappear.
