Rated 5 out of 5Â by Jimbo UPDATED REVIEW
This is a followup Review to the 1 star review that I placed not too long ago. For some reason, I can't edit it. Following the review, a rep from Kellogg's contacted me. Their quality assurance director, Andrew, spent roughly half an hour going over with me the characteristics of the product, the pros and cons. We agreed that it was not good for my backyard, and for me to go with the traditional bark mulch from landscaping stores. He offered me a full refund and apologized for the delay in getting back to me. In my opinion, they did everything they could to make things right, which I appreciated very much. I have given 5 stars to reflect my satisfaction in their willingness in helping me with my future projects. I would not hesitate to buy other products Kellogg's has to offer.

As I'm writing to you about this product, I'm full of anger, but I'll try to keep calm and write a thoughtful review for you. Earlier this year (2014), I bought almost 100 dollars worth of this product and laid it in several different sections of my backyard (I have a very large backyard). Today is 10/3/14. Roughly 70% of the mulch is gone, blown away by wind and rain. The remaining portion of it has intertwined into a thick, carpet-like mat. Great, right? Nope. There are still weeds growing in it. And every time I pull the weeds out of this mulch, a little more of the shredded redwood mulch is pulled off. I estimate that by next year, I will have no more redwood mulch. But this isn't the worst part. You see, on the front label, it specifically states that it "Suppresses weed seeds and retains moisture." From my experience, it does NOT suppress weeds at all because they grow the same as areas I have not mulched. It does retain moisture, though, but not in a good way. One portion that I uncovered revealed SUBTERRANEAN TERMITES! They love this stuff. Now, I want to give some background information. In October of 2013, I had a certified inspection that I was freed of termites. Just a few months later, I place this mulch in my backyard. And now I find I have termites. Coincidence? Anyway, I contacted Kellogg Garden Products to tell them how unhappy I was with this product. You know what I got? The cold shoulder. Months after I contacted them, no response, no reply, nothing. Based on my experience, I would say that this company does not stand behind their product. As a last ditch effort, I'm writing to warn anyone and everyone I can away from buying this product. Please be careful. It's not worth it.

Gorilla hair is fantastic. Less watering required, holds its own in windy conditions and minor foot traffic (gardening). Instant Gratification is guaranteed. Needs placement only twice per year! I love this stuff. Clients love it. The passerby loves it!

Looks great, easy to distribute. Works great on stopping weeds if you use enough. Good for soil which is a plus when you have clay. Just use gloves to avoid slivers.
