Customer Questions & Answers

can this be in stalled without going thru the door casing?

Asked by: diy1
Yes, the box and escutcheon are for all level codes. Some codes only require the wires and wire connections to be covered, so rubber wire conduit may be used. I installed just the small button-part one in a china cabinet (made my own wood cover), then covered the wires well, then hid the wires well.

2 doors, and 2 switches

How would this work with 2 doors and 2 switches? I want to be able to open either door and have the light come on.
Asked by: jkuchtaofmi
You connect the poles in parallel, so that any switch will close the circuit. They are of the "normally closed" type, meaning they close the circuit when the button is not depressed -- that is, the door is opened.

Does this switch need to be grounded?

I removed a switch that is currently installed in the door jamb and it only has two wires and no metal encasement. Does this need to be grounded?

I installed this switch in my linen closet, hoping to bless my wife with a nice light that came on whenever she opened the door. It rarely works like it’s supposed to work. I had to do some custom work so that the switch turned off, for the switch has to be completely engaged to turn the light off. However, even after that, it doesn’t always come on. I mean it rarely comes on. I tried lubricating the switch, but that didn’t work. It feels and sounds like plastic gears within the mechanism and possibly that is why it’s so unreliable and temperamental.

Wasn't in the package so must have been a return? Someone with an electronics soldering gun and a lot of patience might have repaired it, but that wasn't me, so I returned it. Once I got a complete switch, the job went well and now I have a light in my hall coat closet which is very handy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Door jam light switch I installed mine in an old home which ment that I had to cut a hole in the door frame plus the 2x6 studs. Then I had to hide the electric wire to power source. Now when the closet door is opened/closed the light will light/turn off automatically without flipping a switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Door switch works silently Door switch is designed to be mounted inside door jamb flush to trim surface. I have used it as bifold door switch mounted externally to the door trim. Either way it works silently to turn on light when door opens and turn off when door is closed.

Took about 1.5 min to replace broken unit in my kitchen pantry door with the new one. Same wiring, screws, voltage and size as the one I replaced; Just did not have a need for the aluminum box, (used wiring nuts), so stored away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too big I wish this device was smaller to ease the installation. However the switch itself is a good quality with a positive "click" feedback.
