Do you have to keep holding down a button or switch to test the wires, or will it stay on without holding something?

Asked by: JTINHB
No. Place it on one side of a desk lamp wire and then the other and slowly adjust the sensivity control from low to high until it beeps and flashes. Thats how you locate the hot wire. Place the tip in each slot of a wall outlet and adjust the sensivity control and it will find the hot wire.

Will it work through drywall?

Will it trace a 110v AC lead through drywall? I have a switch which is powered from the same 15A breaker as other lights, but I am unable to determine what the switch controls.
Asked by: Springbok
No, this will not work through drywall.

Customer Reviews

12-600 VAC Adjustable Circuit Alert Non-Contact Voltage Tester (Case of 5) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the One I've tried both the Milwaukee, and Klein Tools Voltage Testers and returned both because they were not sensitive enough to pick up emf unless you were touching the wire. The GB Tester is adjustable and works great - close or far if there is emf you will detect it. This is my 2nd GB Tester - one for work, one for home. My 1st GB Tester is over 5 Years old and still works great. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Safety Tool - Homeowner and Pro So many times you need to perform a small electircla task like change a receptacle, or install a light wsitch, etc where you have to utilize an existing junction box. So often previous owners or 'handymen' ran a branch circuit through or frm that box and you really are not sure the box is dead before working the wires. This tool provides confidence and a convenient was to check if power is 'live'
