Customer Questions & Answers

on thr GB outlet tester GRT 3500, WHAT DO THE LIGHTS INDICATE

Asked by: cARRO
Match the illuminated bulbs with the chart on the unit to determine if the wiring is correct or not. Different combinations of illuminated lights tell you if the hot and neutral are reversed, if there is no ground, etc. When you plug the tester into the outlet, the lights will illuminate and the pattern of lit bulbs tells you the wiring status.

Without needing to remove any faceplates, you can find out if the polarization is correct, if the ground is reversed, etc. The only thing I don't like is that it uses neon bulbs with red and orange colored filters - - so the color difference between the lights is not very different. I have an older tester that uses green and yellow LED's which are more easily seen, and easier to see if the wiring is correct or not. Overall, this is a great little tester for quick checks.

I did not want to have to take every recept apart. I was chasing an open neutral and it helped to pinpoint the location without having to open the boxes or use presence of current then multimeter for hot to ground and hot to neutral. Hope I don't need it again for ten years, but it did exactly what I wanted this time

My Wiggens failed and I needed to make sure there was no voltage to the outlet. Plugged in the Gardner Bender and it verified that there was no voltage and confirmed my Wiggens had failed. Bought a new Wiggens and will keep the Garner and use both.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked just as expected. I used this tester to trace down where power was lost in a Christmas light system. Using the tester sequentially down the line from the power outlet, I was able to identify a certain extension cord as the problem. I was very pleased with the performance.
