I am trying to put a little steampunk theme in my kitchen. I have two 3-way light switches (the kind so you can turn on/off a ceiling light from two different locations). Trying to find a bat handle toggle switch that I can replace them with but none seem to have a common terminal. Is there a kind of toggle that would work for this?

Answer:
The switch is just a bridge between the hot coming from the power source (breaker box) and the hot going to the device (fan/light/other). Single pole toggle switches can be used for your application, but you would need to be creative with your wiring. We strongly recomend hiring an electrician.

By the time this question got approved, I found out that this toggle IS a 3-way switch but I can't figure out if it can be used as a wall switch. Some people (with apparently no imagination) are telling me no but I have found toggles like this being sold for wall switches in the UK so there IS a way. Just don't know why traditional wall switches are so special compared to this one. I can put it on a lamp Read More

Answer:
The center tab is for the line voltage from your power source and the two outside tabs are meant for the load to your device. Center would be positive and the outside tabs would be negative.

Answer:
No it does not have a ground, most switches are designed to be like a bridge for the hot wire. The only wire(s) that should be connected on the GSW-13 would be the power coming in and the power going out to the two devices.
