Take the torch in one hand with the Gardner Bender logo facing towards you. You will notice a fine line right below the logo.
Put your other hand on that side of the torch and pull both sides apart. Once you have taken the casing apart you will find a small lighter inside.
You’ll notice that the lighter adjustment is facing a hole in front of the torch for easy adjustment. The case cannot be closed unless the lighter is put back in this same position.
Remove the lighter from the lower portion of the casing and turn it upside down. You will find a docking port for the lighter to be re-fueled. You will want to re-fuel the lighter in this position.
Put the lighter in your non-dominant hand and pick up the fuel container in your dominant hand. While holding the lighter upside down, insert the fuel containers fuel tip into the center of the refill valve of the lighter. Now press down with firm pressure and it will begin to fill the lighter. Don’t hold it down for too long, that will cause it to leak out. Instead you’ll want to use a pulsing motion as to not get sprayed with fluid.
These instructions to fuel the lighter are also on the Butane container.
This butane fueling bottle is like a whipped cream bottle, if you hold it up-right all you will get is the coolant and not the butane.

Pocket Butane Torch is rated 1.2 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just awful. The first one that I bought had a broken bit of plastic inside, right out of the box... Just awful. The first one that I bought had a broken bit of plastic inside, right out of the box, that prevented the flint from sparking. It wasn't something that I could fix so I took it back and exchanged it. The second couldn't keep butane in the little lighter inside and would have to be refilled constantly. Even when full it would take a few tries to get it to light. I didn't use it again for a couple of months and when I finally tried to use it again (after filling it with butane) it lit once and then another bit of plastic snapped and it's now useless. I might be able to get a new lighter to stick in there to get it to work, but, of course, I need to use it right now and don't have a replacement lighter handy. This thing is definitely not worth the money. If you can get your hands on a different torch, do it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not work. I really don't know how this product made it into production. It is literally a dollar store lighter in a plastic casing, 40 cents of plastic for 20 dollars. As if that wasn't egregious enough, it does not light. There must not have been any QA whatsoever, as I have only found one review on the entire Internet that claims to have gotten this thing to work. It's a non-functioning product and needs to be pulled from shelves.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage Extremely difficult to light - after about 30 attempts, finally lights with very weak flame that goes out after a few seconds. Almost nonexistent instructions say to use the adjustment dial if the flame is too weak. You have to totally take it apart to do so, only to find that the dial is already set to all the way open. I will never buy another Gardner Bender product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst product I have ever bought This "torch" is a lighter.... Not only does it never light, but its so hard to press the button down that I end up using 2 hands! Then the saftey button has to be moved every single time then after all that, no light. Ordered a trusted one off amazon....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst product ever bought at HD JUNK, as previously mentioned this product is junk. Doesn't work, instruction are only for refilling the unit, which comes full initially. Back to HD to get my money. HD, drop this product and save your customers the grief of returning it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This thing is... Garbage. First of all, the lighter inside the housing is weak. Second if you're thinking to use cheap .50 clear lighter refills, most won't fit. Third, you'll never need to worry about either of the earlier two points because it won't work long enough to warrant refilling. I think, if one had a choice between this item and lighting dollar bills on fire and then throwing them in the toilet after, the latter would be better, less frustrating and probably, a cheaper option. I chose to smash mine to pieces with a hammer rather than return it. :-)
