I purchased a Generac 15kW unit 6 years ago. It handled the 2-3 hour outages with no problem but I always wondered what would happen when the outage was measured by days. I found out the first week of November when it ran for 4 1/2 days flawlessly. We were the envoy of the neighborhood. On a scale of 1 to 5 I'd rate this unit a 8!!!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by CTRPH8 Don't expect ANY kind of customer support after the sale.
We installed this generator last week and it seems to be a decent generator. We had problems in the transfer switch in that when the power went down, the generator would automatically start up but the transfer switch would not transfer it to the dedicated circuits. This is most likely not a big deal to troubleshoot but Generac patently refuses do do any troubleshooting or phone support at all. I was on hold for 20 minutes (due to being disconnected twice) and when I finally talked with a live human, he told me to call a local Generac repair person who charges $120.00/hr. I won't go as far as to say they were rude, but they were very clear that after the sale, I was on my own. I think that they probably make a decent product but for this kind of money I would expect at least a basic level of customer service. I probably won't buy another Generac product for this reason.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Robert Warranty - what warranty?
Generac finds any excuse (not valid ones) to not honor its warranty. They play games with you when you call them and refuse to discuss where in your warranty you are not covered. They refuse to even refer to the warranty when discussing the issue with them. Last, they refused to correspond in writing to me, maybe... its because they know everything they are saying is unsupportable.

I purchased my generator just after Super Storm Sandy it replaced a Rigid 8500 watt portable gasoline generator. I reviewed several brands with pros and cons in mind and settled on this brand and wattage generator, my unit was installed by certified electricians who also agreed this was a great purchase with maybe a little excessive power, which I explained would be used to assist my neighbors. The unit exercises weekly as scheduled, I check the oil monthly and force the unit into operation to test with a load on it. I also self installed the Standby.com remote monitor system that sends emails and text alerts to the locations I want them too. We have had 2 power failures since the unit was installed and everything worked how I hoped it would. I had a problem with a latch so I emailed generac with the unit information and within a week they shipped the parts free of charge. Its silly if anyone complains about noise level while they have power and nobody else around them does not, I find the noise nothing more hen the sound of comfort and piece of mind I made a great purchase. Since my install is between houses it doesn't effect either of our sleeping areas and nobody could tell it was running!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RTK13 Great Stand-by Generator
I purchased this generator over 7 years ago because of frequent power outages in my rural area. I now have over 200 hours on this generator and it has NEVER let me down. It is a safe machine in that it uses LP Gas (propane) rather than gasoline which is dangerous to store in any quantity. The generator comes on within 12 seconds of power loss and when power is reinstated, the switch-over is unnoticable. I know the power is back on when I no longer hear the generator running. It is not silent, but with proper placement and positioning, it is very bearable especially when one considers the option of not having power. It has operated flawlessly for periods of 8-10 hours. It is very easy to maintain. I use synthetic oil and change it yearly along with the filter. It automatically runs weekly for 12 minutes to keep the battery charged.
I highly recommend this generator! I wouldn't be without one."

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by BillinNH Disappointing durability
I got four years, 72 hrs, of light use, mostly weekly exercise cycles, out of my well-maintained Generac before the rotor blew, off warranty. The repair will cost nearly $1,000 if I decide to fix it. I'm disappointed by the durability of this equipment.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gampy Every home should have one!
Bought it 3 years ago, and installed it myself. Three months later an ice storm knocked out power for 10 days. Unit performed flawlessly. While my neighbors either struggled with gas cans in the middle of the freezing night, or hired plumbers to drain pipes and left, we enjoyed all the normal comforts of home. Highly recommend!!
