My generator is an AllPower (Jiangdong) 8000 watt (10,000 surge). Is this transfer switch compatible with my generator? Also, what are the "interchangeable circuits" I would need to make use of all 16 circuits? Thanks!

Customer Reviews

30-Amp Generator Transfer Switch Kit for 10-16 Circuits for Indoor Applications is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A must have if you need to service multiple circuits with an average sized portable generator Transfer box is well constructed, along with the supplied outdoor outlet for the generator. It comes with precut wires to make the connections to your main panel box, but if you place the outdoor generator receptacle more than a foot or two from the transfer box you will need to supply your own wire. Unit comes with a 10 foot cord to connect the outdoor inlet box to the generator, good quality cord. The dual watt meters are very nice as they allow you to balance the circuit load and help prevent you from overloading the capacity of the generator. Installation instructions were not the most detailed, diagrams could have been simplified, you need to have considerable electrical skills to install it yourself. Capacity of the unit is good, well matched to most portable generator capacities. The option to go up to 16 circuits is a plus over smaller sized units. This does impact the overall size of the unit, which is fairly large. Overall, very good unit that does the intended job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peace of mind. Luckily I had it installed before Hurricane Sandy comes. From now on I can relax and have the peace of mind knowing that I will never lose power in the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backup power This works really well. I haven't had to use it for an actual power outage but I've tested it more than once and it seems to do the job. Unless you're skilled in electrical work I highly reccomend you hire an electrician to install. It's not a simple DIY project. I connected it to my fridge, sump pump and furnace to ensure I can run those in the event of an outage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product comes complete! I installed the Transfer switch and the outdoor Generator connection box in a few hours. It was easy to understand with enough wires and wire length to make the connections in the main panel. Generac makes a quality product and it compliments my Generac 7500 generator. I have filled up the breakers with circuits including my water well and furnace. The test run went excellent ! Great investment for our home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works great, and its so easy to do the monthy test. I installed this my self. I did it in steps and the last step was hooking the boxes to gether. That took around 4 hours. I did buy extra wire and I color coded it. I put in 16 breaker and I'm so happy with it. Each month I hook up my Generac generator and run the panal under load for 30-45 minutes. I can't talk enuff about it. Now, I can't wait for the electric to go out. Roger, NY

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth it! The instructions are well written. Assuming you are not squeamish about working in your electrical panel, this is a standard install. I'm glad for the fact that you simply tie into the existing circuit; you do not need to run additional neutral/ground lines for each individual circuit. The package came with #5 stranded wire to make the connection from your breaker panel to the transfer switch. Since you're feeding power from ganged 60A breakers, I opted to purchase #4 stranded wire. Overall, not a big deal for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality product, except.... This is a quality product except the wrong power cord was packed in the kit. I received a 3 prong cord instead of a 4 prong. Home Depot customer service was great. The replacement cord was shipping out to me right away. I will update my review after installation.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Consider other options.... Prior to purchasing this relatively expensive manual transfer switch look at a panel interlock kit. The panel interlock for a square D panel ran about $70 with minimal wiring required. The panel interlock allowed full access to all of your panel loads versus a selected quantity.
