Product Overview

Install the components in this kit to safely feed power from a portable generator to a home or business during an outage. Run portable power to 6 to 10 essential circuits like a furnace, well/sump pump, lights, refrigerator or garage door opener during a power outage. Kit includes a 30-Amp transfer switch, power inlet box, 10 ft. cord and extra 20-Amp plug. Required by the NEC, a transfer switch prevents dangerous back feeding onto utility lines. Installed like a subpanel next to the electrical panel in a basement, interior room or garage. Accepts standard breakers so if your needs change, more breakers can be added to accommodate up to 10 circuits. If your installation is inspected, this transfer switch accommodates Arc-Fault and GFCI breakers to meet the 2008 NEC. Watt meters help you balance loads to prolong generator life. The power inlet box should be mounted on the outside of the home in a convenient location for generator connection, away from doors and window openings. The 10-Foot 30-Amp power cord (10-Gauge 4-wire) includes L14-30 locking ends for connection from your generator to the power inlet box. If you have a smaller generator (3500 - 5000-Watt), an extra 20-Amp L14-20 plug is provided for your installer to modify the cord. Easy to use. UL Listed in US and Canada.

  • Compatible with virtually any portable generator up to 8000-Watt continuous
  • Allows you to safely feed generator power to 6-10 circuits during a power outage
  • Installs like a subpanel next to the electrical panel in a home or business and includes all wires, metal conduit, fittings and wire nuts
  • Includes 30-Amp prewired transfer switch, 30-Amp power inlet box, 10 ft. cord with NEMA L14-30 ends, and extra 20-Amp plug in case the cord needs to be modified
  • Power up essentials like kitchen, furnace, well pump, sump pump, lights, television, home office, garage door opener and water heater
  • Expandable and reconfigurable using standard, off the shelf circuit breakers
  • Copper bus provides greater reliability
  • Accommodates arc fault and GFCI breakers to meet latest NEC requirements
  • A 60-Amp 2-pole main breaker is required in existing load center not included

what is the largest size transfer switch I can install for the use of a 10000 W portable generator

I just purchased the APGG10000 watt portable generator to use as a back up, for my house, in the event of a power failure. I would like to install a transfer switch, but I am a bit confused as to what size would be better suited to install. The 30 amp transfer switch can be used with a 7000 watt generator. Can I use a 50 amp transfer switch with a 10000 watt portable generator? I will also be installing an outdoor outlet to feed the transfer switch with the generator.

I just bought the xg6500 and when I was looking at it on the web down below it showed accessories for that model and then I went to the 30amp 6 circuit prewired and it also showed which models were compatible with that switch so I think you could find out that way. Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 16 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well Quick installation, 40 % of breakers required for transfer switching - not available for user circuits June 9, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job. The instructions with my Generac Generator say that it should be at least 15' from the house. This Generac kit only comes with a 10' cord. January 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent Easier to install than it looks. Once I got started one step just flowed in to the next. Only wish it was easier to expand to 10 circuits as the front panel doesn't have anymore knockouts and I filled up the 6 right away. After doing this one though it would be easy to wire the 10 circuit in without being prewired but was nervous about it before I bought it. May 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Piece of Cake! I'm thrilled with this unit. It was painless to install, works like a champ... totally satisfied. My desire was to operate the basic circuits (furnace, refridg, freezer, microwave, tv, a few outlets) off a contractor style generator... portable, something affordable, less than 7500 watts. This little unit tied it all together and the final word... its SAFE. February 22, 2011
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Should have known more. First of all to expand circuits you have to order the double breakers to replace the single breakers that come with the kit. Next the outside box that connects generator to switch doesn't have a cover, not good if you live around insects that like to make nests. Also the 10 foot supply cord puts the generator pretty close to the house as far as noise goes. July 13, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Piece of Cake Smart product - works just as advertised. Easy to install - with nothing more than basic home tools. The most time consuming step for me was running 10/4 between the outlet outside and the transfer switch inside. The rest of the process is not difficult or time consuming. The utilities should endorse this product as preferred and safe. February 23, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient to purchase, needed in a hurry This product is made well and installed easily. I actually WANT to lose power so I can try it. OK, I take that back, but...maybe just for a few hours. November 12, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A quality product it came with everything to install and is well made It works well and if need to could expand to 10 circuits. and is easy to understand on how to use it. and the directions are on the face panel July 16, 2013
