I live in the Midwest where our temps vary greatly. If you live in the same climate, just go to the auto parts store and get synthetic 5w30 and you'll be covered.

Answer:
In the winter use 10-30 oil. It's thinner and will hold up in the cold ( stay thin).
In the summer use 30w or 5-30. It's thicker and the heat will thin it but it will hold up well.

All oil should meet minimum American Petroleum Institute (API) Service Class SJ, SL or better. Use no special additives. Select the oil's viscosity grade according to the expected operating temperature:
• Above 40° F, use SAE 30
• Below 40° F and down to 10° F, use 10W-30
• Below 10° F, use synthetic 5W-30

For sizing information, we recommend following these steps:
1. Choose which devices you want to power at the same time.
2. Record and add the running watts listed for each device that you need to power.
3. Record the additional starting watt requirement for each device.
4. Add the starting watts for the highest starting watt device plus the total running watts to determine the total watts requirement.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 645 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth every penny After borrowing a friends generator for the last time, I broke down and shelled out the money for this unit. Since I live in the Midwest, I skipped the oil supplied in the box and bought 5w30 synthetic since it covers the entire range of operating temperatures. It took just one pull and it started right up. I plugged a couple things into it to make sure it functioned. Since everything seemed okay, I drained the gas (painfully slow), squirted some oil in the cylinder and stored it away figuring that I would never have to use it again. It was only about a week later when the power went out and my new generator worked like a charm! July 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Customer Great product, starts easy and very easy to move around, also good on gas. June 28, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Deal Easy to assemble. Starts quickly. Even my 135 lbs wife can move it around. The only bad thing about this product is noise... So far it works, but I ran only for a few minutes, so I can't really tell much... March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by New generator The generator works great. Easy setup, starts on the first pull. March 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great for house power Bought this generator after last hurricane. Since then, I only had to use it once during a snow storm. Started on first pull and ran for hours without any problem. Overall a great product. April 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far it seems to be a great generator. The generator arrived on time, was easy to set up. I added the oil, gas, and it started on about the 3rd pull. I ran it for a few hours with a few items hooked up, and it ran great. I will know more once I have to use it when the power goes out! August 12, 2014
