Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A solid mid-level size generator for emergency use This generator arrived 2 days after Superstorm Sandy hit and left me without power. It took 30 minutes to unwrap it and put it together (attach the wheels, fill it with oil and gas). It fired right up on the first pull. With ease, it runs my refrigerator, a handful of lights, TV, cable box, modem, space heater and an occasional microwave use. It was averaging 12 hours of run time before needing to be refueled for the 96 straight hours of use before our power came back. It appears to be solidly built with high quality materials. Nothing felt flimsy. Changing the oil was a breeze. As others have noted, it is loud. For example, it is far louder than my 2 stage snow blower, and I quickly learned to wear ear protection when I am near it. But that's a small inconvenience compared with it's usefulness. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This was bought for house backup power for when the power company cant keep the power on We purchased this unit because the power in the south goes out and can stay out for over a week at a time easy. we bought the Generac GP5500 Generator because of the durability and the price. This model is the least you should buy for the house( for the watts). This unit came with the 25' cord that has four outlets and that's all we need and that's all it will run. I unpacked the unit, some small assembly required (easy enough) filled the oil and gas pulled the cord about 8 inches and it started with ease. " Now that's a Generac generator " it ran quit and smooth. Thank goodness the power came back on. the unit went to the shed for use later. well spent money on a insurance that we can keep the house going during a outage. (now the power will never go out) February 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good value for what it does We purchased this generator, not knowing how long our power would be out following an ice storm in our area. By the time I got it setup, it only ran about 5 hours before our electricity was restored. So, although I can't really offer a long term review, I can say it was an easy assembly, started right up, and did what it was advertised to do. I ran two small heaters, refrigerator, and some other small electronics off of it. We will keep it for future emergencies, and feel good knowing we have it if we ever need it again. February 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solidly Build I bought this generator during a winter ice storm. I didn't have any options to choose from as it was the last generator they had at the store. As soon as I opened the box I could tell it was put together very well. I got it set up and it started on the first pull. It does the job very well and has some extra features that are very nice. Even though I didn't have any other choices, I am glad I bought the Generac as it seems to be one of the best available. February 18, 2015
