Answer:
Unfortunately, we are unfamiliar with the power output requirements of the loads that you would like to power. Considering this, we would recommend working with a certified electrician in your local area to determine the best product for your backup power needs. For help locating a certified party closest to you, please contact us directly at 888-GENERAC (436-3722).

Answer:
The GP5500 portable generator can cover a wide range of household appliances and items, however the exact items it can cover will vary for each application. The GP5500 portable generator is rated for a continuous output of 5500 watts, with a rated amperage of 45.8 amps at 120 volts, or 22.9 amps at 240 volts. You will want to ensure that all of the items you intend to run will not exceed this rating.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 500 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Customer Great product, starts easy and very easy to move around, also good on gas. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great for house power Bought this generator after last hurricane. Since then, I only had to use it once during a snow storm. Started on first pull and ran for hours without any problem. Overall a great product. April 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product for price Shopped every portable and whole house generator. Decided on a portable due to price and installation ease. Generac comes highly recommended in all forums I looked at. Noise level is about normal for what is expected from a generator. I was impressed that it started on the first pull. Price was great for features and quality build, plus it comes with a 20 ft cable. (mine was missing but a quick call to Generac had one shipped out with no issues) Generac customer service was great and I spoke with a real person, not a recording or someone from a distant land answering the phone and reading the manual for answers. Overall Great purchase and would do it again. November 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent, so far. Fortunately, we haven't had a power outage since I bought the 5500 -- Murphy's law in reverse. But unpacking, assembly and startup were simple and straightforward to understand. With the conversational directions and easy pull start, I made sure my wife could start and use it if I was away. Success. If and when we have to put it through its paces, I'll write another review. February 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to operate, start, and maintain I began my research for a portable generator that I could use at home to power several of the essential appliances in a power outage. I also wanted a generator that could used to power my travel trailer for long camping trips. After observing and testing other generators, I decided on the Generac because of price, ease of operation, portability, and reputation. The Generac 5500 watt generator easily filled the bill for both of the home and recreation requirements. It is simple to operate, easy to start, and maintain. I would highly recommend it for work, home, and recreation activities. December 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy start I've had it almost a year, glad it was here when windstorm took out our power. It runs most of our large house, but power level decreases when microwave and auxiliary heater are on at the same time. It starts easily, but after sitting with gas for 10 months I had to spay one small shot of starter fluid into the open carb and it fired right up and has started with two quick pulls all week. Our house is about 3000 sf and I wish that I had bought a little larger general so I could use the gas furnace also - but I had opted for the portability and the 5500 was 170 lbs on easy to roll built cart. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Solid Machine My experience with the GP5500 has be very favorable. If there was an option to give the machine a 4.5 star rating, that is what I would have rated it. Because there wasn't that option, I rated it 4 stars. I bought this generator to power essential services at my elderly mother's home in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. It performed very well in the nine days that she was without power and allowed my bedridden mother to stay in her home as she wished. I would not hesitate to by this machine again. Since Sandy, we have had a few occasions to use the machine for much shorter periods of time. It has always started with relative ease. The only criticism I have of the unit is that it is very noisy. Obviously, quiet operation is not the primary concern during an emergency situation. But it is worth noting in that multi-day operation of the unit does impose the burden of having to deal with the noise. I've purchased an extra long cable that allows us to get the machine further away from the house. January 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by powerful, starts great, well built/sturdy, handles all my needs I bought this generator on 11/21/2015. It is the best generator I ever bought. I mainly use it in the garage to power a 5hp, 60 gallon Air compressor. The generator is powerful enough to power the air compressor, 10 lights 2,garage doors and all electric tools and hardly slows down when the air compressor kicks on. The RS 5500 is great in every way. I did put on rubber tires though to handle the load better. Like anything else, it must be maintained. I'm a mechanic,So I know that most issues come from self ignorance. I feel without a slightest doubt in mind that this generator will give me many years of service. I take care of everything I own and it shows. I am sold on this RS5500 and would trust it in any condition/situation. Thank you Generac. November 25, 2015
