Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Tom Super hard starting
Yes this is a neat looking generator. Then I went to use it after putting it away for a rainy day;
This thing is a pain to start! After following the directions EXACTLY, it takes 10 -12 pulls if you are lucky. Many times it wont start at all. Now the big problem; I took it to a Generac dealer who said it was fixed. I brought it home and same exact problem. Later, I brought it back to a different dealer and was very specific on the problem and the fact that the last service was a total waste. He understood, took the unit for a week, and said he put a new coil and spark plug. When picking it up, he also had to pull it 8 -9 times and said that was normal. Today, it is back to the exact problem and will not start. GARBAGE!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jordan Nice Generator
The generator was very easy to put together and the instructions were reasonably easy to follow. I put the generator together myself using only a few tools that most people own. The generator is VERY heavy. There is no pushing it up a hill and it may pull you down one if you go that route. However, once in place and after conducting the start sequence as described in the manual, the generator started with the first pull. Excellent! I only plugged in a 40V batter charger so I don't know how it will do with a heavier load but I'm impressed so far. As such, I will only give it 4 stars until I really have to use it and am able to evaluate its capabilities under pressure. Good Buy! **The oil that comes with it is just enough. Don't check the dipstick 40 times like I did.

This is a good generator that would be a great generator if it had electric start.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JH CARB approved for California
As of morning of 2Jun2016 Home Depot's website blocks this generator for purchase in California due to an error in their computer coding. The unit is CARB approved for sale in, and shipment to, California (although not for sale in the city of Los Angeles), and Home Depot is working to correct the error. It is one of relatively few CARB approved propane-fuel generators in this size range. Propane is an important consideration for a standby generator, because the fuel doesn't deteriorate in storage (and gum up the fuel system).

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by TheKyle Awkward to move around but lots of power
I have always liked the Generac brand; however, the 5,500-Watt Propane Powered Portable Generator has a major design flaw. Calling it portable is really pushing the limits. Because it's "cart style" you have to push down on the handle while rolling it around. This is kinda difficult compared to "wheelbarrow style" which you lift while rolling it around, especially on hills or over bumps. To be fair, I will mention that moving it around on a flat, hard surface is no problem.
All that being said, it is a powerful little machine. (I have it connected to my main panel with an interlock kit.) I originally thought it would only run the critical loads in my house, but, with some load phasing using the breakers, it started my 3-ton A/C without a problem and then ran the entire house. Apparently the 25A onboard breaker is slow-blow enough to not trip for the, what I have to imagine, is a large starting load.
Despite what some others have said, I have no problem starting it. Its much easier to (physically) pull the starter rope than I thought it would be. It does need to be primed even when warm, but I think that's a property of a propane fueling system.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rosemarie Generac LP5500 Power Dial for all functions. Detachable hood for engine maintenance
We purchased the Generac LP5500 (made in USA) which is the propane model because we didn't want to deal with gasoline. The Generac portable generator starts right up and is easy to handle and with the GenTent Canopy is a combination that can't be beat (see picture)! Prior to our purchase we checked out all types of covers to keep the Generac dry. Living in Florida and it's environment we purchased a GenTent Safety Canopy from Mark Carpenter (made in USA) - the best way to keep the portable generator safe in wet weather outside with the proper ventilation.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Grayfox Excellent investment
I haven't had to use it in an emergency yet but I have been using it to make sure that when the time comes it will do what it supposed to. So far it starts easily (in warm weather). I love the way the LP tank sits on back and is easy to move around. The weather is starting to get cooler now and I'm going to change the oil to a lighter weight so it's not hard to start. Also get yourself a Gen tent and you'll be all set .
