Answer:
We do not list the decibel (noise) rating of our portable generators because there is no industry standard for testing decibel ratings on portable generators. Testing is not subject to a standard distance of measurement. Therefore, any results can be misleading or inaccurate. All Generac portable generators are equipped with a low-tone muffler.

Answer:
Hello CORVETTE, I’m Newf from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question.
There are no specs for either horsepower or sound output in db for this unit. This engine is purpose built for generators. It is thus both sufficiently quiet and powerful to perform this task.
I hope this helps,
Newf.

6,500-Watt Gasoline Powered Portable Generator is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Electricity Good stuff so far but then again have not used much like three hours
Date published: 2016-11-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Generator I picked up this generator in response to a major power outage in our area. I happened to get the last one in stock. I had been looking for a generator ever since Hurricane Irene, although I was only looking at units with an electric start. Given the circumstances (i.e., it was either this or nothing), I decided to buy it even though it only has a recoil start. I must say that I don't miss having an electric start. The generator starts very easily with the recoil starter, usually on the first try. I was also looking for a generator with low THD so that I could power some sensitive electronics. Generac states that only the IX and XP series have THD less than 5%, but I had no trouble whatsoever handling my loads, which includes two refrigerators, furnance, lights, two TVs, washing machine, microwave, garage door openers and coffee maker (not all at the same time of course). I have no doubt I could have run my cable modem also, but the cable was still out in my neighborhood. I ran the generator for more than 22 hours without any problem. I was very impressed with the gas consumption, getting over 22 hours on just 10 gallons of gas, which is much better than the rated fuel consumption rate. This was probably due to the fact that my continuous wattage was less than half load. Although I haven't changed the oil yet, I really like the convenient location of the drain line, which is on the end of the generator and not obstructed by anything. I also find the generator easy to move with the handle design. I have heard previous complaints about how the locking mechanism has the tendency to break, but time will tell if I experience this problem. The only minor complaint I have about the generator is that it is relatively loud. Granted, this is my first generator, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I was expecting it to be a little quieter with the OHVI engine. Then again, it isn't necessarily any louder than my neighbors' generators, which are all smaller units. Overall, I am very pleased with the generator at this point and would definitely recommend it. I also don't think people should shy away from it just due to the fact that it doesn;t have a battery start.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Xp6500 has great features Awesome, it does what I need it to and more, it can run my basic heat all 120volt AC circuits

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for price Wanted a electric start but it pull starts on first pull once it has been started initially. The XG series is made in USA, thats why I bought XG instaed of GP series which is made in China. It delivers consistent 120 / 240 volts seems to be well built.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from exactly what I was looking for the only down side is I wish it had a much quieter muffler

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed with the quaility and appearance of this generator. Very impressed with the quaility and appearance of this generator. Easy to assemble and the fact that everything needed for the first service interval is included is nice to have. It took a few pulls to get started, I may not have waited long enough for the gas to fill the carb. After the first start it now starts on the first pull. I ran a test run with about 1/3 of the expected load that the unit will see in an outage. It handled it with ease only showing 25% on the power meter. My only concern is the unit is a little loud, not so much exhaust noist but mechanical noise. I don't think I will be able to use it at night during the warmer months without possibly upsetting my neighbors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Product = Piece of Mind Just prior to Hurricane Sandy I purchased another generator from a big box store. However after about 10 minutes of running it would shutdown- reason- it was manufactured with the wrong fuel filter- Quality Control. It was returned. After some time to do a proper review of generators, I picked this model. Yes the price is double, but it was delivered to my house and ready to go. It also comes with a quart of oil, oil filter, air filter and spark plug for first maintenance. I was also able to get free financing for 6 months. I would have preferred 1 year. I would also like to see a meter for total wattage used like the other one had. Hopefully I won't need to use it, but I feel prepared now and I believe Generac will stand by its 3 year warranty, which gives me piece of mind.
