Can this generator be run outside (not covered) when raining heavily?
How well does it regulate the Volts and Hz? Many UPS will not work if input differs too much from clean sinewave at 120 V and 60 Hz

I got my multimeter out and tested the output. It was producing 115 volts at 76 hertz. This would damage any electronics. The hour meter showed 0.0 hours when I received the generator. Made me wonder if Generac had tested the generator at all after it was made. Home Depot sent a person out to verify the output. Now they have ordered a replacement after speaking with Generac. Generac asked the Home Depot Manager to ask me "please do not run the generator anymore". Home Depot has ordered a replacement. It will definitely be tested and monitored closely. Read Less

Why is the Home Depot price so much higher on this model than the MSRP on the Generac site? $1369. on the Generac site and $1449. at Home Depot. On the 6500w, 7500w, and 10K watt models the MSRP matches on both.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 221 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent generator This can serve as an excellent backup home generator for short term uses (up to 5 days) and would be the preferred choice if you need 'clean' power for sensitive electronic products like TVs and computers. Other generators are inconsistent with their power supply so pay a little more if this is important to you. This starts very easy and takes about 30 minutes to set up (attach wheels, put in oil, attach battery, put on handle). Generacs are made in the USA and most other manufacturers are from China (except Honda), which costs at least twice as much. July 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good generator, bad packaging/shipping Ordered this generator after much research for home backup power. The price reduction coupled with a home depot coupon made me pull the trigger. Unit was shipped and in store for me to pickup on the dates published when ordered. Got it home and started unpacking for assembly. I found that the box rubbed areas on the generator frame hard enough to remove the paint (see photos). This is not a defect, just poor packaging. Why can't they just throw a plastic cover over the generator before boxing? I would rather have a non-blemished generator than an extra air filter, I'm sure the air filter cost more than a piece of plastic to prevent it from being scratched during shipping. Like other reviews stated, fill the gas tank at least half way before you try to start it. Runs great, currently putting it through it's paces before the return period ends. The blemishes from shipping were not enough for me to return the unit, just frustrating. Guess I'll be looking for some generac orange paint. April 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent generator Generator was easy to assemble. Easy to start once I saw online it needs minimum half tank of gas. This was not in the instructions. Good machine. June 24, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 8000 watt Generac To start with I purchased over the internet with delivery to the store. Shipping was free but took about 2 full weeks to ship. Then when I got to the store to pick up I had to wait over 30 minutes total to sign and get help loading into my truck. I would have delivered to the house but was worried that curb side delivery was just that, whether your home or not. Then when I got it home and opened it up, I found that the gas tank had a nice big dent/crease on top. Something obviously had crushed it from on top of the carton, which had a tear in it as well. However it appears to be only cosmetic and would not effect its performance. I called customer service and they gave me a 10% credit in lieu of returning it. I would prefer a new replacement but I can live with it, my wife thinks otherwise. Then filled with gas and oil and tried to start, would not start. I could see gas in the filter, checked the spark plug wire connection, wiggled a few things and tried again, this time it started. Lets hope for no more problems now. September 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's OK now. Too much difficulty with initial start (requires at least 1/2 tank of gas and this is not in any directions), but once it got going, now it starts immediately. I tried working over the phone with Generac, and unfortunately for me, it was the same time as a big snowstorm in the east, so all I got from them was empty promises to call me back (they claimed to be too busy). I found a neighbor with some starting fluid to help, and he got it going. Our experience with Home Depot was good. They did a price match and sale deduction with no hassle. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by General generator Exactly as advertised also very smooth transaction during pick-up at my home store. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Early Impressions Have only had this item a short time. Assembly was quick and easy. Build quality, fit and finish seems very good. Noticed that the generator would not start with only a gallon or so of gasoline--it needed about three gallons before the fuel gauge began to register and the engine would finally start. A brief test found it working properly. Happy with it so far... January 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A good price and purchase. There was a little assembly required and then the units were ready to run. One unit had a loose bolt in the engine block that dribbled some oil. A wrench took care of the problem. It would be nice if the battery charger was directly hooked up to the generator. So far there are no complaints about the operation of this unit. February 10, 2016
