You can operate this unit in any type of weather. If it is inclement (raining or snowing) I would recommend that you have it under a portable canopy as well.

Answer:
The # 5846 certainly dose and I believe the # 5847 as well.Check the wattage requirements on the items you listed usually on the item or in the instruction booklets. My guess would be they are under 8000 watts. I think these generators are the same except for emission controls and thus # 5846 can be sold in Ca.

Both of these units feature the same specifications and include a L14-30R, 30 amp twist lock receptacle. Both of these units feature the same specifications and include a L14-30R, 30 amp twist lock receptacle. The main difference between the two is that model number 5846 is CARB compliant, and can be utilized in the state of California; model number 5747 is manufactured for use in 49 U.S. states, not including the state of California. Moreover, these generators are rated for 8,000 continuous running watts and 66.6 amps at 120v and 33.3 Amps at 240 volts. These generators also bestow two 120v, 20 Amp GFCI duplex outlets which are protected by two 30 Amp push-to-reset circuit breakers. We are unable to determine if this unit will be able to power all of your mentioned electronics and appliances, as we are unfamiliar with the amperage and wattage ratings of the loads that you intend to back-up with your portable generator. We would recommend confirming these ratings with the manufacturers of each product that you want to back-up, and ensuring that none of your desired loads will exceed the ratings of any of the aforementioned outlets. Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 181 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ready for El Nino Generac XG 8000 E heavy duty 8000 Watts of running energy. Started with flick of the switch features include electric start, gas gauge, on off switch, fuel control, choke, low oil shut off, relatively quite and portable. Controls situated on easy to see LED lit control panel. I customized a Suncast storage shed with a gable 16 in fan, multiple air vents, exhaust system all available at Home Depot. A high temperature shut off also added makes for a quite and good looking home for the generator. The generator is connected with a 30 amp line to a 10 circuit Reliance transfer switch also available at Home Depot and then to the main panel providing enough power for the house. A two year warranty included . I shopped and reviewed multiple options this was the best. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great generator Easy to assemble and add oil, gas. Rready to use in no time. July 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Generac 8000 watt gasoline portable generator When I purchased this product and picked it up from Home Depot, I believed it would be a good purchase. When I loaded the generator there was no visible damage to the outside of the shipping container. I took home and unpacked. I immediately noticed the air filter enclosure cover had 2 screws - one of the screws had been tightened so tight it broke the cover and the case around the air filter. I called the Generac hot line and reported the issue to them. I also reported to them that I had tried to start using the electric start and the generator would not start. I held the phone up to the engine so the hot line staff could hear. Battery was charged, oil was filled to spec, gasoline was in tank. I tried to crank some more it would still not start. This is for a generator out of the box. I tried again the next day still would not start after charging the battery. I called again to the hot line - and tried some more troubleshooting that they recommended. Short story after working on - I decided to return to Home Depot for a full refund. So it never started for a brand new generator. I think this model is well designed but I felt quality of the assembled product is low. Not so sure I would try another Generac - right now am looking for a dependable generator. Something seems wrong with the company if this is the quality you get out of the box. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by XG 8,000E-WATT GASOLINE POWERED PORTABLE GENERATOR The selling feature of this unit, to me, is the OHVI engine, electric start (with manual pull start) and portability. Also the fact that it will power our small farm house with the AC running is a big plus. The only "con" I feel is the solid plastic tires. Like the old style tires, these too will develop "flat" spots. We thought about the huge, permanent Generac whole house generator, which in itself is a good idea. This (the XG 8000 watt) was more cost effective for us, plus if we move or any family member needs this, it is portable. April 8, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great for storm preparedness. I bought this a few years ago for the hurricanes and storms we see in Virginia. We have a ~1550 square foot home with 2 of us under roof, and this powers everything we need when we are out of power for short or long stints. We do have gas appliances, but primary heat is electric heat pump. It's loud. You will want to place it away from your living/sleeping area. I bought it with the extended warranty, and will need to use it one day. The choke cable keeps pushing the choke back out when running (vibrating), so I have to tape it down with Gorilla tape, but the unit functions fine and I hate the thought of not having it here at the house (while in for repair). The battery stays charged, but I do plug in the charger for a few days every few months. I start it about once every 4 months, and usually keep it full of stabilized fuel, changing/draining fuel completely at least every 18-24 months. It always starts right up; just make sure you use the choke and make sure you use the pull start on test runs as well as the electrics start. Picture of the unit is in the garage, on standby. The box on the wall is the interface to the electrical system of the house. We reconfigured the cable it came with to be male-male, and the chain is for securing the unit for extended outdoor use. Very please with the unit. November 18, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice complete package, easy first time assembly. Nice complete package. Comes with all consumables (Oil, Oil Filter, AND air filter, spark plug) for first use AND first service. The starting battery was charged when we assembled the generator.(wheels and front stand and connected battery to starter) Will use this generator for backup power during power outages. Instructions say to only keep the trickle charger plugged in for up to 48 hours, we'll have to remember to plug it in monthly when we test run the generator. Would like a smarter trickle charger that could be kept plugged in all the time. starting battery does not charge by the generator when running, easy enough to plug the included trickle charger into one of the 110V outlets to let it charge during an extended power outage. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bring it on! We had 2 sustained power failures last year (Sandy, plus a blizzard). We had a 2.5 kw generator which would run the fridge and some lights and a tv, but after 2 days, we had no hot water. This (along with a switchover panel) will allow us to keep water hot, plus heat for 2 bedrooms, and some "hotel load". The initial start was *very* hard, but it finally turned over. Plenty of battery power for a start. It fits through a door easily (Do Not Operate Indoors!) for storage, and not too heavy to push to the neighbors' homes. The shipper put the full box on a hand truck and got it to its "storage location". Very easy setup. Very well designed and built. I found myself secretly hoping for another power failure. I will make a point of testing it once a year. ... in the Summer! February 11, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Solid generator, only longevity will tell if it deserves a 5 star Generator seems to be well made and fired right up after adding oil and gas. It came with oil and a spare spark plug, air filter and oil filter (guess this is the maintenance package). I haven't had a chance to see what all it will and will not run in my house. The generator is stout, so it takes at least 2 people to pick it up to put it into the bed of a truck, 3 would be better. April 15, 2014
