CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 201 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great generator at a great price The GP6500E is a great product for the price I paid. This is due in part to the terrific price promotion from Home Depot but I still feel that this item would be a good buy even without the promotion. There were some minor problems in assembling the unit, but once I got it started I was very pleased with its performance. There was enough power to power most everything in my house. In conclusion I am very pleased with the purchase. July 9, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Started right up, even a 110 pound person like me can do this Although I needed help to get it situated due to its weight, once the wheels were on, I was off and running by myself as a 110 pound woman with arthritis. The generator started right up. The starting directions are adhered right on top of the generator so in the time of power failure, the steps to start it are right there and easy to do. I have run some extension cords and placed them in semi permanent locations to make it even easier to switch important electrically run items over to this neat generator during a power failure. This one makes less noise than I expected. It looks to be easy to maintain and gas is easy to get into it. Glad I bought this one. June 25, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Peace of Mind I got this generator after going for 12 days without power due to a huge storm with multiple tornadoes, and I love the peace of mind I have now. During the outage, I borrowed a friend's generator, since literally every store within a 100 mile radius was sold out of generators. So afterwards, I did my research and shopped around a long time to find the most reliable model with enough power for the best price. The GP 6500 was the base model I picked, and Home Depot happened to have the electric start version on sale for the same price, so I sprang for the upgrade. As far as power goes, I can run my fridge and freezer, a few lights, and my water heater at the same time. If I need to run anything else, I can disconnect the water heater and free up a ton of power. Eventually I plan on getting a Generac transfer panel installed as well so I don't have to run extension cords all over the house. After letting the generator sit for a month in the box after purchasing it, I finally got around to testing it out to make sure everything worked fine before the return period was over. I used ethanol-free gas with Sta-Bil added to it, which is supposed to be good for a whole year. The generator started right up with the electric start, and ran fine for about an hour while I alternated between letting it idle and putting a load on it with various power tools (shop vac, sander, circular saw, etc. - whatever was sitting around in the garage). I also checked the voltage to make sure it was within the specified tolerance, which it was. When it was time to shut it down, I turned off the fuel feed and let it run dry so the carburetor wouldn't get gummed up from stale gas. I drained the tank with a siphon and it sat unused in my garage for about 8 months. I really should have cranked it every 3 months to give it some exercise, but I just kept forgetting. Last week right before we had a big ice storm, I decided to get it out and make sure everything still worked. Added gas, adjusted the choke, turned the fuel supply back on, and tried the electric start. The engine tried to crank, but couldn't get started after two tries. I figured the battery might have lost some charge, so I grabbed the pull cord and gave it a yank. The generator started right up on the first pull, with almost no effort. Then it was the same story as the first test run. After shutting everything down again, I used the included battery charger to charge overnight. So it's pretty storage tolerant, even if you're a little lax on the maintenance intervals. Just make sure to charge the battery every few months, preferably when you get it out to run it. Rated 4 out of 5 by great product so far Ordering online was simple and the ship-to-store option made it easy for me while traveling so I didn't have to worry about missing a home delivery. Got the generator home and hooked up to my existing system without a problem. The electric start function makes it easy for my wife and kids to start the generator if I am not around. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that I only have 4 hours on it and will be interested to see how it holds up in the long run. March 18, 2014
