Can I run 1200/1500 wattage electric baseboard heat with the 10000 watt. Generac generator?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, Bob. As you probably know, the answer depends on how many of those baseboards you run and the current demands of the other devices which are running simultaneously. Check out one of those generator electrical charts that list how much juice each common household device draws.

Type of oil to use?

I live in a climate where the outside temp can get in the single digits in winter, should I use 10w-30 oil for better flow in cold weather ?
Asked by: Anonymous
Mine came with oil that I put in during setup. Generac 30wt, with extra bottle for end of season change. Excellent owner pamphlet discusses options with climate recommendations. Ordinary motor oil. I think Generac wants you to use the single viscosity oil during break in. Chat with them.

XG 10,000-Watt Gasoline Powered Portable Generator is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 106.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good generator I purchased this generator to be used as a back up unit for my home. I was looking to purchase a whole house unit but decided on the XG10000 because is portable. I can take it to where it is needed (family members homes) if my power is on. When not in use I keep it under my work bench in the garage. I do need help getting it into my truck she is a bit heavy. The electric start is great. It will run everything I need to run in my home and more, I can toss a couple of extension cords to my neighbors too. I do recommend that a weekly test run with some load is a great idea. I normally plug in a portable space heater does the job. The only issue I have is, when running it is kind of noisy. Generac please work on a better muffler. I do like this my XK 10000. Looks good too.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The generator arrived at H/D store with damage to the packaging and the pallet it was mounted on.... The generator arrived at H/D store with damage to the packaging and the pallet it was mounted on. One of the two bottles of oil had broken open and H/D staff had cleaned up the mess. They put the remaining loose objects and a replacement bottle of oil into a new box. The axle for the wheels must have been lost in transit, as the owner's manual indicated it was secured to frame, and was nowhere to be found. Generac customer service was very polite and have shipped a replacement axle free of charge.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great generator The generator itself was exactly what it was supposed to be. The accessories were out of the box and just taped to the top of the generator box. Some of the pieces were missing. There was only one wheel, no filters and a few misc. items. I contacted Home Depot and they had Generac send the missing parts. This was apparently the fault of the shipper and I've read reviews where this has happened before.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Powerful Generator Just started using this generator in response to Irene. Changed the oil this morning (after 24 hours running). Have a permanant hookup to the house and a 10 circuit breaker box in the house. Thing runs great. Have it hooked to fridge, boiler (for hot water now; heat in winter), sump pump (very active), the TV and computer plugs and assorted lights. Didn't even start to press the power of this machine. Uses about 5 gallons for every 7 to 8 hours. Easy to full. Oil was easy to change.(should have gotten filter first; next time). It is running as we speak. Probably could have gotten by with 8,000 machine (have a XG1000E. Also, only has elec start. While I keep the battery charged; a pull start option would be nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Generac XG 10,000-12500-Watt Gas This is one trusting generator to have in your garage just in case of emergency and needs for your ALL home electrics needs. I have this unit for 3 years now and its ready for duty, anytime we need it. I have used it for several times by now. Its user friendly controls start / stop, fuel shut-off, and choke plus it have an illuminated LED control panel. Very handy power bar, track how much power you are using and how much power you have to spare with power bar. I test and used all the same times, 3 LED TVs up to 52", 6 large rooms with lights all LED or CFL Light Bulbs, Electric Stove, Well pump, Two Garage door Openers, WiFi router and networking equipment, 5 Laptops 1 Desktop PC, Oil Burner and water pumps two zones, Washer and Dryer, Dishwasher, and some other small appliances and lights around the house and garages NO PROBLEM for this generator and for as long as almost 4 days!! Covered outlets provide added protection! It comes with a Generac’s OHVI 530 cc MADE IN USA Motor, utilizes full pressure lubrication to provide long and trouble-free for years of services. A very useful tip: If you perches this or any battery back-up generators make sure you invest in a good Trickle Battery Charger/conditioner and leave it on your generator's battery year-round and you be all-set in time of need to start your Generators. Usually prices starts from $15 and up. Stay worm and stay happy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, solid unit, more than acceptable performance. I have received the generator, made sure the battery was charged and connected, filled it with oil and gasoline and started it up. It ran like a champ and was very quiet for its size. The initial start-up took some time, probably having to do with getting the oil and gas through the system, so don't worry if it doesn't turn over the first time you push the START button. The oil filter, air filter, ground wire, and spark plug were all in place and ready to go. The spare oil filter, air filter and spark plugs were all there as promised. The problems I see with the unit all have to do with installing/replacing the air filter and the battery. The battery box is secured with bolts and you don't have adequate room to easily get a wrench or pliers on these bolts to loosen or tighten them. As for the air filter, it rests in a box on top of the motor, directly under the gas tank. You literally have to reach up into the generator to unsnap the lid replace the dirty air filter and then re-close the lid. The summer-winter switch is up in there as well. So don't go up in there while the engine is hot! Other than that, I really like the unit and don't regret buying it for a minute. And the best thing of all is that is is made right here in the United States of America!!! My understanding is that all of the "XG" series units are built here, but not all of the other units in other series.
