Air conditioners typically require a considerable amount of surge (start up) wattage, which may exceed the available output of the generator. We recommend contacting the air conditioner manufacturer to determine the running and surge wattage requirements to ensure that it will not exceed the generator’s capabilities.

Answer:
Hi Bert
Since most refrigerators require less than 1200 watts to operate, this generator will successfully operate a refrigerator.
However due to the 1600 watt operating limit, very little else can be added without overloading the circuit breakers on the generator.
So the most you can expect is to operate a refrigerator and maybe one or two lights.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't waste your money After experiencing a power outage during Hurricane Sandy, I was excited to unpack my ix1600 so I could have some light and possibly some heat. It FAILED right out of the box. I oiled the unit as per instructions, put new gas into the unit and followed the start up procedures. After the engine started, I heard "crackle, crackle, snap, POP!!!" then the generator went into overload without anything plugged into the unit. The unit was brought into the Generac dealer for repair 3 WEEKS AGO! Generac's customer service is non-existant and they don't appear to be standing behind this piece of garbage. Buyer beware -- this unit is not made in the US as Generac advertises, but China. November 26, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Piece of junk After about 30 hours of use the engine just quit.I have tried for four days to get it running to no avail.Got spark but no fuel.Checked all the fuel lines just in case some dirt got in them all looked good.Sprayed gas in the carb and it ran for about two seconds.I suspect the fuel pump. Also when it was new it took about ten pulls to get it started. After I get it fixed I will sell it and buy a Honda.Word of advise, don't buy the piece of junk. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great generator for the price I bought this generator for tailgating, and I was really worried about the noise. This generator runs pretty quiet. It's not as quiet as the Honda models, but with the generator in front of the car, you can barely hear it behind the car, especially when it is in FlexPower mode. It's been running great for me so far, and the build quality seems pretty good. Overall, it's a good portable generator, especially considering the price. October 10, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by BAD PRODUCT I have had this unit for 2 years and only been able to use it three times and those times it would not keep running or would not start. This unit has spent more time in the shop then in use. I contacted Generac for a refund and they refused. As soon as possible I will sell this unit and get a generator that works. I would not recommend anyone buy a generac. I was told Generac was the top of the line, you could not prove that by me. August 2, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bill Again I am posting again as I posted before "Not recommending this product" Thjis is an update: I took my generator to Generac in North Bend, Wa. They stated a bad circuit boad and needed replaced after 25 hours and 14 months. They stated a 1 hour labor rate of 85.00 and 10-14 days. I picked it up yesterday and they charged me nothing in labor, even though was past 12 months. Not sure if shop or Generac themselves, but I am assuming an isolated case and will now update to recommend. Thank You generac, you did the right thing. It makes a BIG difference and again I will suggest your product. July 4, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product for the price! Great product for the price! Started on second pull. If you follow directions with inverter generators and keep them clean and maintained properly, you'll have a great running general for many years, no doubt. It is well built and VERY comparable to hondas in terms of running noise level. Very satisfied with my purchase! October 30, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great unit for bush camping! Bought this unit for camping away from power and people. Supplies my trailer with power for the fridge, furnace, stereo, TV and charges my units battery if I need it to. Don't know how I got along without one for so long.Light and easy to move, start and hook up. I highly recomend this unit for and hardcore campers, very satisfied customer. July 23, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worked well I bought this for my boat to keep the batteries charged. They unit worked well, but was a little louder than I expected. The only thing I didn't like was if it wnet into an overload condition, there is no way to reset it other than turning it off and restarting. A breaker would be nice. August 12, 2014
