These are incorrectly marked on the website. The diameter is .25 and NOT .2 1/4 = .25 5/16 = .31 3/8 = .375 1/2 = .5

How many in a pack?

It reads $2.79/each, I presume this is for each PACK. How many pins does $2.79 buy?
Asked by: RT

Will these work to put one bed on top of a other (bunk beds)?

Asked by: Pc
No. Buy a longer/thicker dowel and cut to the desired length. Something like a 4' long, 3/8" to 1/2" diameter. Cut 4 pieces off at 4". Drill the applicable size hole 2" deep on the posts and you're done.

If you do buy them, buy four times as many boxes as you need. Then, as you go along fitting the dowels, you can put the three out of four that will be either too tight or too loose back in the packages and take them back to Home Depot. Be sure and tell them they are defective so they don't end up back on the shelf and ANOTHER guy has to deal with them. I don't understand why Home Depot does not find another supplier. I have to go look elsewhere.

The fluted areas let glue squeeze up into them to give more glued area and stronger hold. They have a consistent size to them. The beveled ends help to allow them to get started into the hole easier. Used these on several projects and they have worked out fine every time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Useless Like other reviews, these dowels do not fit at all. When you insert them into properly drilled holes (even with glue) they have so much play, that they won't hold. Look elsewhere or make your own if you want something that works.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Break Easily I have used these dowels to repair a glider chair several times, The reason I have had to do it several times is because after about a year, they break. I insert them with wood glue and use furniture clamps to hold the pieces together. I find it necessary to use dowels for good connections while working on furniture, but these are not the ones I will use in the future. The problem with them is that the wood they are made of is too soft. They are okay for holding two pieces of wood together but not where there is any movement or stress.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer beware... poor dowels The sizes are all over the place. Dowels are supposed to fit snugly with finger pressure. They shouldn't require a hammer to place (unless you aren't using glue, then it should be hammer-tight and you shouldn't be using fluted dowels anyway) and they shouldn't fall out when the piece is inverted. 1st and 2nd boxes I had, everything was loose and would fall out. 3rd box was 50% nice and snug, 50% required a light hammering to place. Since this was my 1st time doweling I trusted the review stating they expand with glue (I hadn't found the info about being tightness yet). So far everything from General Tools I have run across has a bad rating and lots of faults. Either avoid these or buy extra boxes and only use the good ones. They do seem to run mostly consistent within 1 box. I mean that if you pull out 1 dowel and it falls out it is likely that the rest will do the same. If you open another box and find it to be snug then you will likely find at least SOME others in there that do the same. PS - I am using a nice new $70 doweling jig and a new drill bit so I know my holes are proper and consistent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Invaluable for furniture projects I was putting together a crib from Ikea and some of the older dowels were broken or missing. I was so glad that my local store had these to filling in the missing pieces. I guess some stores have taken them off the shelves because they weren't selling, but I am very grateful to have found them. Great quality, perfect size, great price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from wood dowel pins too loose The wood dowel pins did not have that slightly snug fit that is necessary. Instead, the dowel pins were loose in their holes. I am very experienced at wood dowelling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good dowel pins Always a handy item to have in any woodworkers shop. Many uses. Fluted for snug fit. Cuts & sand easily if needed. I keep a collection of General brand dowel pins in my shop for those unforseen needs when woodworking projects are going strong.
