Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. The unit you are considering has a door weight limit of 350 lbs. so it is not likely to be compatible with your door.

Answer:
1/2 hp is a bit light to handle some of the heavier doors. I believe you would be better served (and longer) with either a 3/4 or even better, a 1 hp unit. The heavier door places an over-strain on the smaller unit, thus reducing its life span.

I'm guessing it will work, but I doubt it will last long. Wood doors are very heavy and added to your situation is a even heavier double door. I would opt for the highest horsepower out there and go through the installation process only once.

Answer:
The opener uses the entire length of the track to "hold" the door. If the track was shorter, the door wouldn't lift high enough for your car to clear under it. I don't believe it is possible to reduce the length of the track to accommodate your structure, but you certainly could add some cross braces in the right place for your motor to reinforce the attachment area.

The length of this unit installed is 124 inches, so you would need to cut down the rail and reduce the chain drive length to fit your application. Details would be in the manual to explain how or our Customer Service Team could walk you through the process. You can call them 1-800-354-3643.

Answer:
Your best bet is to read the specs of the model or better yet contact Genie directly. They are very helpful. I would guess that if you had to cut the track yourself, you would also need to shorten the chain. Doing this will probably void your warranty. Again, checking with Genie would be the best thing.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by easy to use and very useful easy to use and very useful , the only Con is the signal is not strong enough , I can use it when very close May 8, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Purchaser of 3 openers I recently purchased/installed this opener at a vacation home after installing 2 of them at my full time residence. They were delivered quickly and all parts were included. The openers work well and the units seem to have a good design. The assembly of the unit was not a problem. I had to spend some time making changes to the supporting structure due to the new units being a different style and brand than the previous ones at home and the fact that the vacation home never had an opener. I am very happy with the units and the extra remotes provided. Each of the remotes in our cars can operate all 3 garage doors, which is very convenient. Genie seems to make a very good product. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by VERY QUIET I purchased this product online and it arrived in three days. I'm not mechanically inclined but...was able to install this without any help. The directions were easy to follow. I chose the product due to price and other's reviews. I needed to replace my previous garage door opener. Im amazed at how QUIET the opener is. Its a 1/2 horse power which does affect how quickly the door opens and closes. The garage door openers do not work from a mid to long range. I do have to pull within 5 ft of my garage for the remote to work. For the price..and ease of installation...you can't go wrong with this purchase. May 13, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice operation at a reasonable price The installation was pretty quick and easy. I haven't installed an opener in a number of years and found that what is now an economy opener was easier to install than the older models. Only problem I have had so far is in adjusting the downward force. I can not get it to stop and reverse itself the last four inches while closing. At higher points of pressure, it seems to work fine. This is a safety concern that I plan on addressing with the manufacturer. Mounting was mostly pretty easy, and programming the upward and downward limits, and the remotes was extremely easy and painless. For the rest of the performance, everything works well and I am very surprised at how quiet and smooth the opener works. April 29, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replacement Gagarge Door Opener I am not a handy, mechanical, or electrical person. I bought this to replace the old genie garage door opener that came with the house. The price was very good. I had thought about paying someone to do it, but thought I would try to do it myself. I started at 9 am on a Saturday and completed the installation of the new one as well as the uninstall of the old one at 4PM Tracks, wiring, sensors, and head all were replaced. Following the directions I was able to do this on my own. This one is much quieter than the old one and looks much better as well. August 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product so far for the price! Have had this unit for just a little over a month now so we will have to wait and see how it holds up. Unit was simple to install, taking the old garage door opener and track down then installing this one took just at 2.5 hrs, working by myself. Installation was rather simple and the instructions were very good and I couldn't find anything that they didn't cover. Had called a couple of different place before purchasing this unit and it was going to be around $400 for them to come out and install one, so save yourself the $275 and install it yourself, I paid right around $125 for this with shipping, well worth the money so far. Also, my other opener was about 16yrs old and this one, even with chain drive is so much quieter than the old one. I would recommend this. April 22, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not as easy as we hoped Prep work on the ceiling took a lot of time, but that isn't a reflection on the opener itself. We made two additional trips to Home Depot during the installation. The first one was to get a rachet set to make the installation easier, and the second was to get mounting straps that we didn't realize were not included until we got to that step in the process. Unfortunately, what they had a HD was not really what was required and again we struggled due to inadequate tools (we were installing this unit at our daughter's house.) One of the cosmetic cover tabs was broken upon receipt, but the opener functions fine without it. I recommend that a buyer go through the installation manual completely before beginning the project to make sure the area is prepped adequately and all the necessary tools and parts are assembled. August 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solid purchase After having backed into our garage door, our previous Genie opener stopped working. We shopped on line and found some openers costing less than this one. We have faith in the Genie brand, and wanted to stay with Genie, so we ordered this one. It was delivered to our house quickly and in excellent condition. We expect this Genie opener to last us many years. We feel that one cannot go wrong with Genie and Home Depot. August 19, 2014
