Answer:
Yes. the DC motor starts off slowly then gets up to speed. The stop slow down is not as noticable as the start. These units are a nice upgrade from the AC motors

I don't know whether it has a "soft start" or "soft stop" feature, however, the motor and gears are quiet and vibration free. I doubt that it has any special features beyond basic but it is a good value for the money and I would recommend this model to others.

ChainLift 600 1/2 HPc DC Motor Chain Drive Garage Door Opener is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 67.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Satisfied customer Product was delivered in a timely manner. No missing parts. Easy to assemble. Has been installed and is working fine, (so far).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from product is a small unit and very quiet I bought this as a gift for my husband. He had it up and working in, honestly, 20 minutes. It is very quiet and works great for our garage. Matter of fact I am headed back to replace mine with one (just have not had the time to go yet).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent opener I upgraded from a Chamberlain that died. I had considered the belt version of the Genie 600 but I read how that model has a plastic part that's prone to breaking, so I went with this chain version. I was able to reuse the mount over the garage door and the door bracket, which saved some time. Nothing unusual with the installation: bolt the track together, finalize the mounting and do the wiring. It's a pretty quiet unit, and I like how it slows down just before it reaches one of the end points. The adjustment buttons are also on the underside (instead of the backside), which is more convenient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value Surprisingly quiet operation. I had been contemplating buying a belt-drive model to ensure quietness, but this model is plenty quiet, for much less money than a belt-drive. Instructions were easy to follow for installation, and I had it up and running by myself in less than an afternoon. Quite pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from very quiet Love the DC motor. When you press the button, you have to look at the door to see it move since there's no sound at all in the first inches of rising. There was a challenge in the installation which a phone call to the help line solved. (hint: when setting the up and down limits, when the directions say "Hold both buttons for ten seconds," don't give up after just ten - hold them for fifteen or twenty until the light you want to see illuminates). If you can abide a door that moves a little slowly, this opener is great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very easy to install. This opener was very easy to install. It's also very quiet! The only negative is that it takes ages to go up and down. We are using it for a two stall door though. And the range of the remote is poor. We have to literally drive the car right up to the door for it to work. It came with plenty of wire and tacks to install the sensors and opener button. The instructions were very easy to read and understand. It took a few hours start to finish, but never ran into any problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. I purchased this unit because of the price. But was extremely hesitant about the 1/2hp and whether or not it will be a good system. I was quite surprised after getting installed. It worked well and 1/2hp was more than enough power to pull up my heavy 2-car double garage door. The motor was strong and didn't look like it was struggling at all. What surprised me the most was that it was very very quiet. Glad i made the purchase and saved myself a few hundred bucks from not buying the higher end models.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replaced my old Genie with this one had it up and working in about two hours. Bought two Genies when I bought my house about 14 years ago and replaced mine with this Genie. The wifes Genie is still working perfect. Very happy with the Genie brand. I really like the intellicode. Will purchase another unit like this when the wifes' quits working.
