Can you bypass the safety sensors?

I assume the door will stop at any height if it gets resistance like something or someone in the way. But for my installation I don't need or want these sensors - it's a toolshed and only I use it. No children for miles. I live in a rural area, and we have frequent power outages, so I'm not thrilled about a garage door opener to begin with, but garage doors these days don't have a handle or a locking mechanism accessible from the outside. Garage door manufacturers assume everyone has an attached garage and the power never goes out - tell that to all the folks on the east coast last winter!

Can you just not connect the sensors, or close the circuit somehow?

Answer:
Yes, the door does not know if you happen to mount the sensors above the door or any other location where the beam is not broken. I mounted mine above the torsion spring.

Answer:
The door opener will not work without the sensors that comes with the opener. When I replaced my MasterLift opener with the ChainLift opener I tried using the sensors that were installed with the old opener. The door would not close at all. I had to use the ones that came with the CahinLift opener.

We had installed on a double wide door and it works. My door is a metal one. A wood door is much heavier. If you have a metal one I would say yes.

Its little bit slow which I don't mind for safety reason. Plus it gives me time to close the door from the inside and run outside if I don't want to use the portable remote.

ChainLift 800 1/2 HP Chain Drive Garage Door Opener is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 159.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Customer! My 25 year old Genie screw drive unit bit the dust. I was very happy to find this package deal online. Delivery was fast. Packaging by Genie was great! All of the parts are numbered in numbered boxes and well detailed in the instructions. I installed this myself, 60 year old 5'2" female, with the help of two ladders. The estimated installation time was way too short. Had to do a lot of customizing mounting adjustments. I worried that the power head wasn't mounted level with the lift end, but was pleasantly surprised that it was, and works great! A lot quieter than old unit! Had to go out of town, so haven't been able to get the keypad programmed properly. Hope to figure that out, but all in all, if I could install this by myself, anyone can!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Opener but Beware of Fatal Installation Error Great garage door opener for the price. Comes with 2 remotes and a wireless opener which is nice to have. Is fairly quiet and opens/closes at a normal speed (not super fast). During installation be absolutely sure that the carrier on the chain is on the correct side. If it's on the incorrect side of the chain it will not work and there's no way to get it to the other side. The directions do not mention this carrier at all. Be careful. * With the motor side of the rail closest to you the carrier should be on the RIGHT side of the chain. It needs to be able to lock onto the arm where the red pull handle is located.

We bought this item as we have a two door garage and the second door opener that still works has an older Genie chain drive opener with Intellicode so I wanted to use same wireless code box for both units and existing car remotes from the old unit. This new unit is much quieter than the old one. We thought the directions were well done, the boxes of parts were well labeled, and it helped to watch a YouTube installation video too before we started. It did take several hours to do the job but it wasn't very hard. We would have liked to have reused some of the parts from the old unit but they were different enough that we had to replace almost everything. We've only used it for a couple weeks and it seems to be working fine. We like that there are lights on both ends so it provides more light in the garage and the wall control unit has an extra button to just for turning the lights on an off.

Fast and free shipping directly to my house. I had a little trouble getting my the homelink in my cars set to work with it. Even after following all instructions from homelink and from Genie, I found that I had to use the learn button on the opener to enable it to learn the homelink setting.
