The main drive motor is a DC motor compared to other garage door openers that have an AC motor. This translates to a faster and smoother opening of the garage door.

Do not have the screw drive but have the chain drive basic model. Can honestly say, the chain drive is fast and quiet in opening and closing, using the correct amount of force in opening and closing perfectly so far.....Opening the light 4 panel 7 foot aluminum door, the door makes more noise than the motor of the drive....hope this helps...

I used to have a cedar door and my 1/2 HP opener worked great with it. I now have an insulated double wide door and have no doubt about the 1 HP motor.

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. The unit will work with a two car garage up to 7’ tall as it is sold and up to 8” tall with an extension kit. If the door is taller than this you can get a pro rail that will work up to 14”. As long as the door is in proper balance and good condition the unit will work fine for your two car garage.

Answer:
Yes it works fine with my 16'6" 2-car insulated aluminum door. Of course your door springs should be adjusted such that when the door is 3 to 4 feet off the ground it hangs neutrally (this is in the instructions).

Answer:
There may be a slight difference in the way that the screw turns inside the rail. The section that the carriage is located in will not turn as easily as the others. Please contact our office at 800-354-3643 with any other questions or for further assistance.

If I remember right the carriage is on the C section, I believe that's why it won't move but for the motor it will be a non-issue.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 85 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Home Upgrade The switch from our old operator to this new Genie was relatively simple. The operator was hung on the same brackets, the length of the rail was the same as the old one. We did run new wires, but it could have been less time consuming if we had used the existing wires. The new system works very well, is very quiet and fast. Total install took the two of us about six hours, but the re-wiring was a huge contributor to this. The installation instructions were easy to follow. The plastic cover for the lights does seem very cheap and flimsy, but I put in LEDs, so should not have to touch the cover for a long time. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent The 1hp screw drive opener opens the door with ease and the riding mower I bought 11 years ago still runs great. July 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Real men don't read instructions! Easy to install, quite, smooth. A bit confusing to figure the buttons out and program the up/down limits but actually figured it out. Then I read the instructions August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great opener for one piece wood doors When my old Chamberlain screw drive opener died (it was 25 years old) I bought another Chamberlain opener. I bought the quiet belt drive, what a piece of junk, I installed it, and the Chamberlain could barley open the door with a 1 HP motor. I took it down and returned it, what a waste of time. I bought the Genie screw drive, right away I saw that the opener quality was way superior to the Chamberlain. Fairly easy to install the Genie, it took me about 2 hours, from start to finish. This opener opens the door with ease and is quiet. July 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Genie I have had Genie screw drive openers for over 40 years. I bought this one to replace the linear chi drive that came with our condo and finally gave out. The Genie was very, very easy to install (as they all have been). I am not a big fan of the change Genie made in the track, changing from the inverted "T" shape to this channel style. It is not a big deal, I just prefer the original style. The only reason I gave this four stars (I would actually give it 4-1/2 if I could) is the noise it makes. The track makes a lot of noise when the carriage passes the points where the channel connects together. I guess there is nothing to be done about it. I had my garage door serviced about a week after I installed the opener. The service man said"That is the way they sound. It is running just fine". The best of my memory is they were a LOT quieter in the past. Maybe it is that new channel set up instead of the inverted "T" . Anyway it is a great product with a great reputation, is easy to install and except for that noise, operates wonderfully. I would recommend this product to anyone. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great I did a lot of research and landed on this one. My old opener gave out and it was time to replace it. This one was a good price, came quickly, was easy to install and is quiet and smooth running. I've had it in now a few months with no issues. July 30, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Genie The garage door opener. Is working great. Just make the is doing the job right. No fast job. Broke the outside key pad. Had to call Manager at Home Depot. Explain to him what happen. While talking to home depot. The contractor said he spoke his boss. Told him to use an spareone from truck. So because of contractor I am given them a 3.5 stars. Respectfully FreddyGarcia. July 5, 2016
