Customer Questions & Answers

What are the pro's and con's of drive types IE: Belt vs. Screw vs. Chain. 1/2 HP or 3/4HP ??

I have a 16ft wide old wood door with raised panels, very heavy to todays standards, What would be the best type and HP opener to use?
Asked by: Jdude
Motor HP is judged by size and weight of door. single car door= 1/2 HP, double car door= 3/4 HP. To me, chain is strong but noisy, screw is real strong and quiet, belt is quiet. Remember, door should be counterbalanced by spring(s). For what it's worth, I would use 3/4 HP screw for this door

Does it connect to car and truck opener?

Asked by: macie
You can program 2 separate remotes to open the same door (three button remotes)

Are these easy to put in by oneself?

I am looking to get a garage door opener as a gift. The person I would be giving it to would be very good at handy items - but I am not quite sure if this is something an expert needs to do, or if there are instructions on how to.
Asked by: Gina
YES. I have MS, and I installed two of them. READ the directions and TAKE YOUR TIME. If you can read a tape and FOLLOW measuring instructions, you should have no problem.

Controlling 2 Doors

I have two garage doors therefore I would be purchasing two of the same unit. Does this model have the ability to control 2 doors separately through the remotes & keypad ? If not, is this unit compatible with any type of universal remote that could operate both doors separately ?
Asked by: Bravo
Yes ... each opener will accept up to 7 different transmitters. The wireless transmitter can be programmed to operate up to 3 separate openers. Each of the two remote transmitters can also be programmed to control up to 3 separate openers. Genie Tech Support is very helpful when dealing with Home Link systems.

QuietLift 800 1/2 HP DC Motor Belt Drive Garage Door Opener is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 170.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value This garage door opener is much much quieter than my previous chain driven opener. My master bedroom is above the garage and it's nice not to hear the garage open. The remote is better than my old garage door opener and works from about 50 ft away but not as good as I'd like it to be. My favorite new feature is the keypad mounted outside the door. I use this feature much more than I thought I would. Forgot the house key? No problem punch the code. Most garage doors are 7 ft high. I didn't realize until this install that I have an 8ft door. You have to spend an extra $50 for an extension kit, available on Amazon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too Quiet After having gone through only two Genie openers in "Thirty" years, when our genie quit, this was the name I went shopping for. Was delivered when expected, arrived in perfect shape. Was quick and straight foreward to install. Am surprised the wall mount switch has no lighting at all, not even a glow to it.No big deal though.. The only real complaint, is after having a screw drive opener for years, this one is too quiet. You cannot hear the door opening when you are inside the house...actually kinda nice now that I think about it! Does seem to look like a certain brand label of charcoal! Works perfect!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I like this product for its quietness and smoothess I however don't like that the wireless clickers loose their programing very easily and also the range of the wireless signal is too short I have to be close to the garage door for it to work. I used to be able to open the door from street distance about 35 or so feet with my old unit. also I was not able to program the wireless pad I think it may be defective or maybe I tried to install it too far from the garage unit at about 18 feet from the unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from belt drive garage door opener. Removed two old Genie screw drives over 30 yrs old.. instructions were lacking a bit.. and did not cover the solid flip type of door, though no mention of coverage was made in the sales specifications.. However, the tech support was more than adequate and right on target for the few problems that did arise. And yes.. the flip doors do work with the units.. not just sectional doors.. and it should be underscored that no operation or setting can be done until the infared units are installed.. bottom line.. good price for a product that was well made and fairly quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Garage Door Opener I purchased this opener three weeks ago and installed it myself (with the help of my wife) just last week. It replaced a 21-year-old opener that had quit working. My overall impression right now is that the Genie Quietlift 800 is a very good quality opener. The instructions that came with the opener were complete, straight-forward, and easy to follow. It took me approximately 5 hours to install it, but I'm slow and probably too meticulous when I install things like this. I was able to use several of the existing mounting brackets (for the header, door, power head), but I did choose to replace all of the existing wiring, which took a majority of the installation time because I wanted to make the wiring as inconspicuous as possible. The only difficulty I experienced during the installation was getting the "Close Force" adjusted properly, but that was eventually accomplished after several attempts. Programming the wall console and the remote was surprisingly simple, and both of these devices operate to my expectations. Concerns expressed by other reviewers, regarding the speed of this unit when opening/closing are unfounded. Again, the opener meets my expectations in this area. I currently have two other garage door openers, one a chain drive and the other a screw drive, and this belt drive is by far the quietest of the three.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Good Quality Product Never installed a garage door opener before. The assembly directions were clear and very easy to follow. The door opener is extremely quiet compared to the chain drives and the adjustments dials on the back of the opener are easy to read and control the door with precision. The extra garage light with shut off timer button is also a nice feature. No need to open the door just to turn on the light!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super quiet and easy one man installation! I have never installed a garage door opener before so I didn't know what exactly to expect. I had no one to help me. I figured I'd tackle it. I have mechanical know how, but don't do this for a living. Took me a day to do. Never followed instructions. I'm one of those that can figure it out and refer back to the instructions when I hit a road block. It was installed perfectly but I had trouble getting it to work. One quick call to Gennie and it was up and working. Apparently the buttons for the "Learning Code" is a little more complicated than in the manual. Once the operator told me the proper procedure, it works great! Well worth the time and effort and saved $100 installing myself!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from works great, but not all that quiet and has a security issue with the keypad I've had this installed for about a month now. The security issue I've found with the keypad is that once the code is entered to put the door up or down and then they keypad is closed, someone can come up & press any button on the keypad and send the door right back up. I don't know how long it will do that for. Its not an issue with the remote or the wall button. I expected it to be quieter. My brother just put in a couple Genie quite belt drive openers and they're both a lot quieter. Its not loud though, just not as quiet as I hoped. Good quality. I'd recommend this for anyone on a budget, but be careful if you leave and use the keypad to put the door down.
