I however don't like that the wireless clickers loose their programing very easily and also the range of the wireless signal is too short I have to be close to the garage door for it to work. I used to be able to open the door from street distance about 35 or so feet with my old unit. also I was not able to program the wireless pad I think it may be defective or maybe I tried to install it too far from the garage unit at about 18 feet from the unit.

I purchased this opener three weeks ago and installed it myself (with the help of my wife) just last week. It replaced a 21-year-old opener that had quit working. My overall impression right now is that the Genie Quietlift 800 is a very good quality opener. The instructions that came with the opener were complete, straight-forward, and easy to follow. It took me approximately 5 hours to install it, but I'm slow and probably too meticulous when I install things like this. I was able to use several of the existing mounting brackets (for the header, door, power head), but I did choose to replace all of the existing wiring, which took a majority of the installation time because I wanted to make the wiring as inconspicuous as possible. The only difficulty I experienced during the installation was getting the "Close Force" adjusted properly, but that was eventually accomplished after several attempts. Programming the wall console and the remote was surprisingly simple, and both of these devices operate to my expectations. Concerns expressed by other reviewers, regarding the speed of this unit when opening/closing are unfounded. Again, the opener meets my expectations in this area. I currently have two other garage door openers, one a chain drive and the other a screw drive, and this belt drive is by far the quietest of the three.

This garage door opener is much much quieter than my previous chain driven opener. My master bedroom is above the garage and it's nice not to hear the garage open. The remote is better than my old garage door opener and works from about 50 ft away but not as good as I'd like it to be. My favorite new feature is the keypad mounted outside the door. I use this feature much more than I thought I would. Forgot the house key? No problem punch the code. Most garage doors are 7 ft high. I didn't realize until this install that I have an 8ft door. You have to spend an extra $50 for an extension kit, available on Amazon.

The opener works fairly well and is quiet, but it it is slow. It is slower than comparable chain or screw drive openers. The keypad is a bit finicky and I sometimes have to re-enter the code. The remote has a very limited range and I often have to hit the button multiple times before it works. Most importantly for me, the lever to disconnnect the door from the opener functions in the opposite direction from most openers, so it doesn't work with the emergency disconnect key/cable that pulls through the door. When the power went out, I was unable to disconnect the door and raise it manually, so I couldn't get my car out to go to work. Overall, I would not recommend this opener.

I had the unit professionally installed by Home Depot in April 2013, it is now October 2013 and I have had to call Genie Customer Service 4 times because it keeps breaking down. I have had to replace every major component except for the motor and rails. first the wall control button stopped working after about a month, then the shuttle that attaches the door to the bullet on hue belt broke, then the belt broke, now the safety sensors have stopped working after about six months and I am awaiting new ones to be shipped. Also Genie makes you pay shipping on each part even though the unit is under warranty and the one I bought is obviously defective and they have yet to offer a full refund or a full replacement. We are waiting on the motor to go next, then maybe they will do something.
