Answer:
The safety beam blinking can be caused by a couple different issues. The amount of times it blinks is diagnostic. You can refer to your owner’s manual for the reasons, or call Genie Customer Service at 1-800-354-3643 for assistance.

Will these safe-t beam replacements work with that opener? Am I asking for trouble in replacing sensors only, or should I go ahead and replace the whole opener due to its age and eventual failure?

Answer:
If your current door has sensors then these will work. If the drive is OK then just change the sensors if they are giving you trouble.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 41 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazingly easy to install...just requires a screwdriver and 10 minutes! I am not handy whatsoever but the installation of these sensors was even easier than previous reviewers wrote. Believe it! April 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by easy fix to a nagging problem I have a 20 year old overhead door operator that would not allow the door go down. My sensors appeared to be out of alignment because the red light kept blinking. After an hour of frustration to fix the issue with out any success i decided to replace the sensors. It took me longer to drive to the store that it did to replace them. December 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick and easy change out Easy to swap, works immediately, change out was quick and complete January 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Genie garage door infared senors I purchased these to replace a set (20 years old) that failed after I got them wet cleaning my garage. The were easy to install and appear to be a better unit than the old ones. The door instantly started working correctly after I installed these. December 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product Easy to install. Works well with existing garage door opener. Had to make some spacers for the brackets so beam would not be blocked by door rails. December 30, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by working great It is working great so far and hopefully will last December 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great with an old Genie. Easy to install. Does not come with wire, but you can reuse the old wire. I have an old screw drive opener from the 90's and this worked just fine. I had the old square sensors and this was a fine replacement. Couple of tips: It doesn't come with wire, but for most people reusing the old wire works just fine. The new brackets lined up perfectly with the old brackets. I just reused the old screws and I didn't need to fiddle with it. They lined up perfectly. It was an easy install and should be within reach of anyone. Tools that you will need: screwdriver. Tools that you may need: ladder to unplug the motor (you can also flip the breaker off), wire cutter (any cheap ones will do), wire stripper (you can use a knife in a pinch-careful not to cut the wire), pencil (to mark pilot holes), drill and small bit. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by hard winter replacement Easy enough to break, built to be near the floor, hard to locate to a safe place for the switch. The new style is much improved over the older type which slides off the bracket. March 11, 2014
