What is the length of the power supply cord? Are there longer versions available?

This question is from SilentMax 1000 3/4 HPc DC Motor Belt Drive Garage Door Opener, Revolution Series
May 30, 2016
Does anyone know the length for the power supply cord that comes with the unit? It is my understanding that building codes (wisely) prohibit using an extension cord to connect an outlet to the motor's power cable.

There isn't a power outlet on the ceiling of my garage, so I need to evaluate options: 1) Install power outlet on the ceiling 2) Use a longer "official/dedicated" power supply cord from the manufacturer or reputable 3rd party.

For safety purposes, I would hire a licensed electrician for any electrical work.

Answer:
Yes, a doorbell button can be used to open and close the door, and the button will light.
However, the kit comes with a wall switch which can also control the light, and also has a "vacation lock" button which locks out the remotes.

So it is way more complex than just a simple NO/NC button. Read Less

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 283 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very quiet opener This is a very quiet simple to install opener. If you watch the videos on the Genie website on installation it makes it even easier. I only have one issue with this opener. Comparing it to my other opener which is the other brand sold by HD I believe this is of lesser quality. Obviously the two main parts of a garage door opener are the motor and the track. The track on the other brand is solid steel and the belt runs around on the outside. It does not flex and is extremely rigid. The Genie on the other hand is 3 sections held together by two other sliding sections. It is not rigid and I see it flexing around when the door operates. Nevertheless the Genie is a nice opener and I think it will last a long time. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent opener I have bought 3 garage door openers in the past year and this is by far the best one. I bought 2 Chamberlain chain drives and this Genie belt drive. As expected the Genie belt drive is much, much quieter than the chain drives. In addition, the Genie recognizes the car's "homelink" (built-in) transmitter for pre-2011 cars as well as newer cars. I have 3 cars, a 2004 vehicle, a 2011 and a 2015 vehicle. The Chamberlain garage door opener will not program to the 2004 vehicle, unless you buy additional equipment to make that work. That is true for both Chamberlains I bought. Soooo.... not only is the Genie more quiet and lets me program all cars, it was also $9 cheaper than the Chamberlain. And to top it all of, the Genie is a 3/4hp motor while the Chamberlains are 1/2hp. I'll never buy another Chamberlain, this opener is far superior. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great item Easy install and very quiet. Work with both Ford and Chevy built in opener buttons. July 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by An installation tip Yes it's much quieter than the old screw drive. I have one that has been trouble-free for over a year now. It went up easily, I love it. During installation of a second unit, I discovered there is a hole in the cover, right beneath the hanger slot. You should put a piece of tape over that! I dropped a bolt into it and had to disassemble the cover to retrieve it from under the circuit board. The cover is easy to remove, just two screws and it slides off, but the screws have to be removed from the bottom which is awkward when the unit hasn't been hung yet and you're supporting the motor in your hands... Then you need to be careful not to pull on the electrical wires inside. April 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Installed yesterday, thoroughly impressed as of today! My 13 year old Genie opener died earlier this week. Decided to spring for another Genie opener, my door is kind of heavy, decided to give this one a try. My impression: 1) Installation - Genie gets a A+ for their super easy to understand instructions and packaging of small parts. All I can say is wow! 2) Design - This 3/4 hp model is packaged small and it light. Easy to install by design. 3) Programming - I was worried about having to enter "programming purgatory" to get this thing to work. Actually was quite surprised how easy it was to program and get to work. 4) Compatibility - I was able to use my old Genie remotes and the Genie electric eyes located at the front of the garage! Even my 2005 Chrysler was able to be programmed to open this new door! 5) Speed and quiet - yes this opener is fast enough and quiet. In summary, as of this morning with 1 day of use I am thoroughly impressed with this opener. July 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very quiet garage opener This garage door opener was fairly easy to install it just took some time. We love how quiet it is, that alone was worth the higher cost. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Genie SilentMax 1000 is very quiet indeed! Bought this opener to replace an older Genie G5050 screw drive that died after many years of service. Our bedroom is right over the garage and when the G5050 got going, the bedroom rumbled. Although I was skeptical of belt openers, I was swayed by the 15 year warranty on the belt and went with the Genie SilentMax 1000. You won't be disappointed if you want a quiet garage door opener; the bedroom no longer rumbles when you operate this opener. Even in the garage the difference is very noticeable. Installation was a one-man (me) DIY project. Instructions are clear; assembly of the rail and attaching it to motor is easy. All parts are in color coded bags. If you have DIY skills, you really can't screw this up. I saved some time using the sensor and switch wiring of the previous opener. A second pair of hands would have been nice in the later stages of attaching the unit to the ceiling, but was able to get it done resting it on a ladder. June 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good product the unit is very quiet and extremely smooth. reduced garage door noise by 80%. so far so good on the rubber belt. excellent contractor for installation. June 14, 2016
