It is definitely much quieter than the previous (20 year-old) screw drive we replaced. The installation went fairly well but I did have a contractor do most of it. It took a couple of hours with removal of the old opener. Luckily we were able to use some of the supports from the old system to stabilize the motor. The ones sent in the package were not strong or rigid enough. Yet to see if this one will last as long as the previous one.

Nice quiet opener but does not have motion sensor to turn on light. No where on packaging or instructions does it say this. I already have it installed so I can not return it. Not safe for my kids to walk in a dark garage at night. Hopefully nothing is in the path or a stranger is hiding in garage. Sensor light has always been standard on Competitors models.

The SilentMax1000 is an excellent product. This is the 4th garage door opener I've had and the best by far. It's quiet and quickly opens/closes. I had it installed so I can't really address the actual ease of installation, but the installer had it ready for programming in 40 minutes; it was a replacement opener so he used existing wiring and supports. One thing that was irritating: I ordered the 1000 3/4 HPC and when it arrived, the box said Belt Drive 750. No where on the box was SilentMax 1000 mentioned. I wasted 18 min. on the phone with Genie (never spoke to anyone, on constant irritating hold) and then tried HD who also couldn't tell me why I received this product. We agreed it was "technically" the same product but they also couldn't get through to Genie support. HD offered to return/send a new product but I refused. I just wanted it installed. Once I opened the box, there was the SilentMax 1000 cover. Did they switch things out at Genie? Who knows since they never answered their support line. And it was Genie, not HD that shipped the product.

WOW!! This thing lives up to it name "SlientMax" and is very smooth! I got this on a killer deal 50% off at Home Depot and am thrilled with the purchase. For the quality and value, it would be nearly impossible to do better and I honestly don't know why one would need more than 3/4HP unless their garage door was ultra-ultra heavy and insulated.

Had one of Home Depots' trained professionals installed the garage door opener, they were truly professional during the installation, and I could not be more happier with the garage door opener.

Got this at 50% off. No one around to set up Home Depot installation. Decided to do it myself. Took me 4 hours, but proud knowing I did it and saved a ton of money! Works great and very quiet!

Quite, good unit. Replaced an older Genie model, bracket locations and wiring made a quick install.

I have bought 3 garage door openers in the past year and this is by far the best one. I bought 2 Chamberlain chain drives and this Genie belt drive. As expected the Genie belt drive is much, much quieter than the chain drives. In addition, the Genie recognizes the car's "homelink" (built-in) transmitter for pre-2011 cars as well as newer cars. I have 3 cars, a 2004 vehicle, a 2011 and a 2015 vehicle. The Chamberlain garage door opener will not program to the 2004 vehicle, unless you buy additional equipment to make that work. That is true for both Chamberlains I bought. Soooo.... not only is the Genie more quiet and lets me program all cars, it was also $9 cheaper than the Chamberlain. And to top it all of, the Genie is a 3/4hp motor while the Chamberlains are 1/2hp. I'll never buy another Chamberlain, this opener is far superior.
