Do I need to purchase any additional hardware for installation of the opener?

Asked by: Danklan
You might need some extra angle iron. It depends on if your garage lid is drywall or exposed trusses. I have exposed trusses and didn't need anything additional. The instructions are very clear, you may want to open it up and give them a quick read to be sure you leave the store with everything needed for a trouble free install, or go online, I'm sure the instructions can be found online.

Why does the door suddenly not stay in the down position after working properly for several days?

I got this unit a few weeks ago. I had a little trouble programming the up and down limits at the beginning, but it finally seemed to be okay. I even did the Contact Reverse test and set that. But, it didn't work well. After the door was opened a few times (maybe five or six times), it wouldn't stay closed. I finally omitted the Contact Reverse step and the door seemed to work all right. Now, what's happening is that the door works properly for a few days, then, for no reason that I can figure out, it will not stay closed. When I close the door, either from the car or from the wall console, it will go down, pause, and than come back up. This has happened several times. When it happens, I'll go in and reprogram the up and down limits until it seems to work okay. Then, a few days later, it happens again. Is there some trick in the programming that I'm missing? As it is, I can't trust that the door will stay closed when I leave the house. I have to wait and watch the door close and make sure it stays closed, before I dare to drive away from the house. What is wrong and how can I get this opener working properly?

The instruction manuel that came with your vehicle is where you will find instructions for syncing your opener with your car. The dealership will be able to help you if you have any problems getting it to sync.

I researched all of the options of garage door openers and this one was the best one for us. We were able to install it easily, my husband did most of the work alone, I helped intermittently. Some reviews said it was hard to program the keypad, for us it was no issue. The only thing we had to "YouTube" is how to get the garage door to go all the way down, we essentially needed to just program it. Silly mistake on our part, but it was easily fixed. This opener is extremely quiet. Our garage shares a wall with our living room and you can't even hear it. Love this opener!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SilentMax - is Silent! You read "SilentMax" on the box never really expecting silence; however, the only real sound you hear from this door opener is whatever creaking your door makes moving up or down the tracks. The opener itself is virtually silent during operation. Unbelievable! As for installation - read the instructions after watching a couple/plentiful Youtube videos with regard to installation -- and it will seem intuitive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quietest Garage Door Opener I have ever owned. I have installed 3 other garage door openers - all screw type - I installed this by myself, because it is a belt drive it was a little different, but I took my time, and while it did take me all day, installation was straight forward. The only thing that I disliked was the markings on the wire for the sensors and switch is very very hard to see; so that made it a little more difficult to wire it up - their old wire had a very easy to see stripe, they should bring that back. Now that it is installed, it is both quiet and fast, it is so quiet that my children complained that they cannot hear the garage door open when someone drives into the garage - so their early warning system is gone.

The only sound comes from the garage door itself moving. It operates smoothly and is easy to install and I did it alone. Instructions are clear and the packaging color coded to aid assembly. I would also say the customer support is outstanding...I had broke part of the flange on the idler pulley during the install due to my error. The garage door functioned without any problems but I called Genie to order a replacement. They quickly shipped me a replacement pulley/pin and instructions free of charge.

It went up with no problems and I had it done in less than 3 hours. In fairness, I replaced an older Genie opener so I wasn't starting from scratch. The belt drive is very quiet. It is almost noise free and sounds very strong.

I did it myself in about 4hrs. that includes taking down the old garage door opener which was chain driven and very noisy. Speaking from experience i would definitely know the height of your door. I thought mine was 7ft. but it is actually 8ft. This door opener requires an extension for 8ft. doors. If you install this opener without the extension your garage door will not opener all the way. So if you have a big truck look out. Otherwise this is a very quite opener. my dogs no longer bark when i come home because they can not hear the garage door open.

Replaced my no longer produced Wayne Dalton iDrive (which was the 3rd unit in 11 years) on my double door with this. Very, very quiet and easy to program. I have overhead storage, so had to cut a small 4" channel in wire shelving to clear the rail. I also used sturdier mounting brackets than the thin straps provided. This was such a nice unit I installed the Quietlift 550 model on the single door, programmed them both to the outside keypad and the HomeLink system in our vehicles. Very satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An installation tip Yes it's much quieter than the old screw drive. I have one that has been trouble-free for over a year now. It went up easily, I love it. During installation of a second unit, I discovered there is a hole in the cover, right beneath the hanger slot. You should put a piece of tape over that! I dropped a bolt into it and had to disassemble the cover to retrieve it from under the circuit board. The cover is easy to remove, just two screws and it slides off, but the screws have to be removed from the bottom which is awkward when the unit hasn't been hung yet and you're supporting the motor in your hands... Then you need to be careful not to pull on the electrical wires inside.
