I have a GCG350L chain glide on my metal pole barn. I have to be 2 feet from the door to open it. I want to put this receiver outside to increase the distance to open the door. Is that possible and will this kit work with my CGC350L?

I found the radio range for this unit to be excellent despite having a brick house and metal door. The unit will work with any opener that has pushbutton contacts (which should be all). It has zero weather resistance though, so mounting outside where it can get rained on is out.

If range still turns out to be a problem for you with this unit, I would probably mount the unit inside right on the skin of the building and drill a tiny hole to allow the antenna (a ~ 10" wire) to stick out of the building.
On the down side, be aware that this unit forgets all programming when the power goes out. Read Less

I'll answer my own question. I bought this unit, put it on the outside of the barn and now I can open the door from at least 30 feet away (maybe more).

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fixed my problem After replacing my old oak garage door with a new aluminum one, the remote became temperamental. It wouldn't work , most of the time, unless you were within a couple feet. After installing this kit, I can open and close my garage from 200 yds away and more. (your mileage may vary)This thing is great! February 28, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by FORGETS CODES EVERY TIME POWER GOES OUT I have a very old Overhead Door opener that I needed to control with new openers, and I purchased this unit to facilitate that. It worked perfectly for the purpose. It accepts codes from a wide variety of remotes, and has great range. I was very pleased with my purchase....so much so that I threw out the box it came in. Then the power went out for an hour. When it came back on, none of the remotes worked. Upon checking, it appeared that the unit had forgotten all of the programming I did. I called Genie tech support to report the problem expecting to get an RMA for a replacement unit. Instead, I was told that the unit's memory is not non-volatile, and will forget everything upon loss of power! I would return this thing in a second, but I discarded the box, and besides, Home Depot is not responsible for the pitiful design. Unless you want to dedicate a UPS system to run this thing, stay away December 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Genie worked great on old Allister openers My old Allister door opener remote control stopped working. The old door openers still worked fine so I didn't want to replace everything. I tried a less expensive no name brand two door remote and it worked on and off for about a year and a half, loosing the signal more and more often. These are a little more money but wow. I bought two of the Genie universal remote conversion/upgrade units "one for each door" and they work great. The installation is simple and the range of the remote was better than the original. It worked so well, I ended up buying an additional remote for the house and the Genie keypad for the front of the garage. I couldn't be happier and wish I had bought Genie years ago. If your trying to upgrade or resurrect your old door openers, this is the way to go. November 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Fix! When faced with buying a new garage door opener to replace an ancient (but smoothly running) Overhead Door Model 100, due to the fact that I didn't have a working remote, I was pleasantly surprised with this product. It installed easily with some rudimentary prerequisite skills. It really brought my opener into this century. November 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This work perfectly This is a great answer to my problem, I was thinking to need buy a new motor when sensor not answer after pushing button November 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Garage door opener too old I received a refund for this item as my garage door opener is too old to be updated with a remote! I will be installing a new garage door opener in the spring! October 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Garage Door Radio Receiver Upgrade The wireless remotes stopped opening the garage door, yet the door bell button with direct wiring worked okay.. I had the option of installing a new garage door opener for $138 or buying a new radio circuit board for $90. Instead, I found this relatively low cost radio receiver that was compatible with the original wireless remotes. It also included an additional wireless remote for your car's sun visor. Installation: Relatively simple: Power up the unit with the AC adapter (included) and run the output wires to the same screws that connect to the door bell button. You should have some familiarity with wiring. Then you push a red button on the unit to put it into programming mode, and then press the send button on your wireless remote so they sync. Done. Harder: Your ceiling socket needs to have a second position open for the AC adapter. The adapter is heavy and needs to be secured to the light socket with the long screw they include. I used a tie -wrap for extra measure. August 25, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Glad I read reviews I was about to take this unit back but then I read the reviews on homedepot.com to see if there were any lessons learned from the other users. Like many said, some of the buttons on the remote transmitter didn't work. For me it was the third button, it worked! I had used my mulit-meter, studied wiring diagrams, nothing seemed to work. After I told my wife how i solved the problem she asked me why I wasted hours and had paper and tools everywhere; she would have just done that from the start. There are a lot of wires everywhere, so I wish the installation was cleaner, plus I'm dubious to how well this will work with my family car's "Homelink" but that is a bridge to be crossed later. I bought a house with an Allister opener that isn't made anymore and didn't have any working remotes. I bought this Genie system on a whim at Home Depot assuming it would solve my problem. Had I known that 2 of the 3 buttons on the remote wouldn't work, it would have solved my problem in half an hour. In reality, it took me about 3 hours to get everything up an running. Plus, it sure beats hundreds of dollars for a new opener. August 11, 2015
