Battery Operated Photoelectric Smoke Alarm with Integral Thermal is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good alarm so far. Easy to install. ... Very good alarm so far. Easy to install. I bought it because it senses fires that ionization alarms may not, and it seems to be a very good value for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I tested this smoke alarm and it did not disappoint. After watching a Dateline show about smoke detectors and the failure rate and times of ionization detectors I was shocked. Like most homes in America I had ionization detectors. I did some online homework and purchased these detectors. In a contolled warehouse I conducted my own test with my old dector and this dual heat and photoelctric. I first burned some toast and my old one as usual goes off, the new one did not. No more false alarms! Then I slow smoldered a couch cushion with a soldering iron. The new one went off after just 6 minutes versus 23 minutes, A full 17 minute difference. I repeated the test with a piece of wood and the results were nearly the same. Folks, for your own safety and your children please check your smoke alarms and replace them as soon as you are able. Your life and the lives of your family could depend on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BEST Dual Sensor Smoke Alarm out there! This alarm is the best smoke alarm you can buy. It combines the 2 real sensors, photoelectric for smoldering fires, and HEAT, not ionization for Fast Flaming Fires. From recent news reports, Ionization alarms have over 8 times the false alarm rate of photoelectric alarms, and when it comes to slow, smoldering fires, ionization respond 30 MINUTES later, or sometimes, not at all. This alarm is install in several areas in my home, and I can burn all the toast I want, it will not go off, the way it should be. The Gentex brand is widely used in commercial buildings, far higher quality then most competitors. You only have one chance to get this right, make the right choice the first time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gentex is the best for the $ I bought a few of these dual photo/heat detectors for my home a year ago, and have not been disappointed. There have been no false alarms with them, and I've learned since I bought them that the Gentex brand makes the highest quality devices on the market, primarily in commercial occupancies. I would not hesitate to spend the extra money for these parts in order to keep my family safe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Smoke and Fire Detection Device for the Home, Period This is the Spartan warrior of smoke alarms. It's huge and ugly, but it's the best out there (combination photoelectric smoke and heat) and installation was no more challenging than a $5 smoke alarm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed Right out of the box, this thing looks and feels significant compared to your $15 detector. Comes with two small screws and plastic drywall anchors. I like the 3 position test switch (patented). Did you know that this thing is washable? Follow procedures in manual. The only con is the physical size and how much it protrudes out from the ceiling or wall. It does come with and recommends only Duracell, but I'm an Energizer person myself. I have wired system already, but purchased two of these battery operated ones to supplement and add some additional detection capability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Skepticlady57 So far, so good. installing was simple. The equipment is very different from your usual smoke detector. It requires testing weekly, and could not be placed directly in the kitchen. Hope I never have to hear it, accept when testing, but if it does, I am confident it will work. I liked that the battery came with it, however, it is the only battery you will be required to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality, Made (assembled) in USA! This smoke detector is one of the few I've owned that does not have a cheap build quality. The test alarm is also a tad louder than most smoke detectors, which I consider to be a good attribute. It even came with a made in USA Duracell battery :)
