Groundbreaker Multi-Tool is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as impressive as I thought it would be... Well, it's decent where it counts but the extras are cheap looking and clunky. The handles both unlock and slide off to become tools of their own except they look cheesy and the utility knife is not at all necessary when you usually have a knife that you carry plus, when you slide it off, it becomes a bit difficult/awkward to use both at one time...I would prefer them to be individual tools. I really like the quality and function of the jaws and its purpose for wiring and so's sharp but all that yellow plastic brings it down quite a bit making it bulky in the handles. To give it credit, they designed it so that the utility knife cannot be opened when attached to the jaws however, if you remove it and slide out the blade, it can be reattached to the jaws causing unthinkable design flaw that can be dangerous if you are not thinking right with the blade fully exposed...I would think you'd make it so you cannot reattach the knife as a handle with the blade exposed. The jab saw is ok and actually cuts into the wall better than my other jab saws...unfortunately, the void at which it folds into makes it rather uncomfortable with sharp plastic edges at your fingers while sawing. The biggest item to note is that it is NOT insulated to protect against shock so you must use caution and really not even bother with the screwdriver function. The handle can be used to tap nuts loose etc by using the hammer end of the jaw but that is what a flat insulated screwdriver and your palm are for. While this tool has function, it's too bulky and it's flaws and design make it more of neat transformer conversation piece. I myself will stick to my insulated screwdrivers, utility knife, jab saw with a round "comfortable" handle, and wire strippers...hah, who am I kidding, I use insulated needle nose pliers.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pretty disappointed - would not recommend. As a hand tool, this is an EXPENSIVE tool... so I was expecting top shelf quality. In reality this reminded more of something you'd find at one of those discount tool stores that always have 20% off coupons (HF). My primary complaints are: - Non-Insulated: It's an electrical tool... that just seems foolish. - Sticky mechanisms: Everything is stiff and hard to operate. A tried greasing the moving parts but its still very difficult to use. - Complex to dissemble: I thought the drywall jab saw on a crimper was a brilliant idea. I expected to just turn it backwards and flip the saw blade out. Not so. You have to remove the handle via a sticky mechanism, flip the blade out via a sticky mechanism, cut, then reassemble the tool to do anything else. Really poor implementation. - Low quality: The metal and plastic used is very cheap and low quality. The handles don't have any kind of comfortable grip it's just cheap plastic. - WAY overpriced: This is not a tool for a pro, this is a DIY tool. A professional electrician is going to want individual tools for each of these functions to keep them moving quickly. A DIYer would be interested in the multi tool to simplify whats in their toolbox. But at this price.... no way. tl; dr; I'd save the money and buy a crimper, jab saw, and cutter by themselves.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from big and bulky This tool has a lot of capabilities but takes to much time switching back and fourth between them. It is better suited for the home owner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wire Strippers on Steroids OVERALL: Very useful for most tools - wire strippers are the primary function, and work great. Other tools are good, but less useful perhaps. Heck of a lot better than dragging your tool box under the house or into the attic. More of a professional tool than a for the average DYIer at this price, very specific to electrical work. TOOLS: Includes wire strippers, wire cutters, pliers, box cutter, multi-bit driver, hammer and drywall saw. Also has a set of bits and extra blades in the carrying case. OPERATION: Locks to hold pliers closed were hard to open at first, but loosened a little with use. Both handles detach from body, which is convenient, blade doesn't seem to open unless detached. QUALITY: Very good overall. Particularly impressed with wire cutter, very sharp with a nice curve to channel the wire. Handles are plastic, but seem solid with a good grip. PORTABILITY: Carrying case is very rugged, with good belt loop. Tool stays in case very well with a small pillow inside that keeps it from falling out. Doesn't fold over the pliers like a lot of multi-tools, but given the tools it includes it seems like a decent trade off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Swiss knife for electricians and DIY enthusiasts Gerber Groundbreaker tool is a must have tool for home electricians and DIY enthusiasts. It is compact with a great design and feels solid due to materials used. It is made of 420J2 Stainless Steel (steel used to make precision surgical instruments as it remains sharp longer and is corrosion resistant. Unlike most other multi-tools it comes apart in pieces that makes the individual pieces easy to use. I love the fact that the magnetic locking bit driver separates and works and feels any regular screwdriver. Same ease with the Multi-locking utility knife and dry wall saw. No more odd angles or adjustments to use it. BTW the pocket knife comes with quick blade change function and 6 blades are included. It has a Spring-loaded pliers with replaceable serrated jaws and hammer tips, 10-20 AWG Wire strippers, 8-32 and 6-32 Bolt shearing/re-threading holes, 2 sizes looping or bending holes, copper wire cutter, terminal crimper, Hammer tip and 6 bits and holder which has 2 Phillips, 2 Flathead & 2 Robertson bits. It also comes with a heavy-duty, nylon belt sheath that has pockets for tool bits, extra blades and additional loops/pockets for tape, pens etc. The holder has a back pocket flap which lets you just hang it on to your hip pockets, Very convenient, and also has a stainless pocket clip. Overall a solid tool for most household and electrical uses.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality but practical? Gerber is one of Fiskars' brands. I didn't know it at the time but when I saw "Fiskars" on the nice black box the Groundbreaker Multitool comes in I expected it to be a high quality tool as are the many other Fiskars tools I own. I was not dissapointed. This tool also features a lifetime warranty as many of Fiskars' nicer tools do. As far as the strippers go they're a good pair that work well. Have the features you'd expect in a multi stripping tool. Wire cutters, wire strippers for 10 - 20 AWG, loops to bend the end of wires, 2 cutters for 8-32 and 6-32 size terminal screws and crimpers for both insulated and non-insualated and non insulated wires. The tool itself is not insulated and can't be used with live wires but most strippers aren't and I try not to work with live wires in the first place. In addition the Groundbreaker has plier jaws on the end that can also be used as a hammering surface to hammer out plugs in boxes. I even used ot to hammer in some picture hangers when I was too lazy to go down and get a hammer. Both handles are removable. One has a utility knife and Gerber provides extra blades in a nice dispenser that fits in the sheath. The other handle features a drywall saw and a magnetic tool bit holder. A number of screw driving bits are included and also fit nicely in the sheath. You can use the utility knife and driver without detaching them off the handle. Same with the drywall saw but you have to push it up a little to get it past the other handle. It's a little clunky to use that way but it works and is faster than constantly removing the handles and putting them back if you have to go back and forth between tools frequently. When using the drywall saw you'll likely want to remove it since you won't be stripping wires in between cuttind drywall in most cases. More practical to use the utility knife while still attached so you can strip the sheathing off romex and then strip the individual wires with the strippers for example. The sheath it comes in is very nice and easy to add onto your tool belt. A flap on the back can slip into a back pocket so it doesn't bounce around from side to side as you move. There's a detatchable strap that you can loop electrical tape on as well as two small side pockets for a pencil or screwdriver. Not everything needs to be a multi-tool though. I think it would have been better if it just came as a kit with the strippers as they are with fixed handles and a separate multi-tool with the knife, saw and driver. Maybe not the best tool to get someone just getting started as an electrician or needs a basic set of tools but it would make a neat gift for that electrician or diy'er that has everything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shockingly good The Groundbreaker is an electricians multi-tool, with a carry sheath. The tool aims to do many things, and does them all rather well. It cuts and strips all the way up to 10 gauge, which covers most tasks. The two handles to the tool both detach with the flick of a lever. One becomes a simple utility knife, whilst the other a serrated saw for cutting drywall and the tip of this saw also doubles as a striker to release conduit nuts - this is really useful and saves me ruining the tips of my flat blade screwdrivers; this handle also has a fold out tool bit holder to accommodate the provided flat blade, phillips, and square bit tools - (or any other standard bit you already have). A single bit can be left in the tool when it is folded away, the rest go in a holder in the tool sheath. Standard features on the main body of the tool include a terminal screw cutter, wire strippers, wire loop, wire cutter, terminal crimper and a spring loaded jaw. The tips of the tool can act as a hammer, to strike the drywall saw when using its tip to loosen conduit nuts. The tips also act as pliers to undo or tighten small nuts, or pull wire through conduit. A set of spare blades for the utility knife are included. A nice feature is the addition of a removable loop that can hold a roll of electrical tape, or your keys if you are prone to losing them on the job site as I am. Two small sides pouches are on each side of the sheath, large enough to hold a screwdriver, pen/pencil, or other similar sized object. Ergonomically, it is not the greatest shaped tool, but that is the price you pay for having a tool that can do so many things. If you often find yourself at the top of a ladder with a needed tool at the bottom, then this tool might be the answer to your problems. I installed 5 outlets with this tool, and the only other tool I needed was my conduit cutter. This tool is every electricians dream tool, it replaces so many other tools. Gerber’s lifetime warranty alleviated any fears I had that this tool was made in China. It feels substantial, and lived up to its promise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tool, But difficult to wield for small hands This is a great multi-use tool. It is quite large so for people with small and even medium hand size it can be a bit difficult to use. I have medium hands and my fingers are stretched when the tool jaw is open. It cuts drywall well, the razor blade handle was quite useful and screw driver with multiple tips is great. The instructions show/tell to use the hammer tip of the pliers to hit the removed handle with the hammer end (seems right), until the drawings show using the drywall blade tip as your hammering tip against what you want to hammer. Hammer a knife blade on the tip?? Really??? I don't think so. I put the #1 square drive in and used that to hammer and it worked well.
