Product Overview

An industrial-grade, water-based, silane/siloxane engineered to reduce water and moisture intrusion, while protecting concrete or masonry substrates from chlorides and deicing salts. Siloxa-Tek 8500 is our favorite product to treat nearly any application. A proprietary blend of silane/siloxanes, this clear penetrating sealer not only prevents deicing salt and freeze-thaw damage, but its hydrophobic nature resists moisture intrusion and vapor transmission. This is the go to choice to seal any concrete, brick, or masonry based substrate especially driveways, basements, patios and garages.

  • Prevention from freeze-thaw attack and ASR by preventing the ingress of water, prevents further damage to reinforced concrete by limiting the substrate water content, chloride and other aggressive salts
  • Provides increased protection as a hydrophobic barrier to prevent future penetration of water and soluble aggressive agents through a crack, provides protection from spalling and pitting as a result of aggressive salts and chlorides
  • Alkali resistant, freeze-thaw/de-icing salt resistant, UV resistant, reduces vapor transmission, water beading (water repellent effect), reduction of dirt pick-up, reduces risk of efflorescence, protection against micro-organism growth
  • Supplied ready to use, easy to apply, effective penetration depth, seals pores and capillaries while remaining breathable, no change in appearance of the substrate, the treated surface does not become glossy, tack free, durable finish, no formation of harmful by-products, low VOC's
  • Online Price includes Paint Care fee in the following states: CA, CO, CT, ME, MN, OR, RI, VT

Customer Questions & Answers

Can this product be used to seal an interior block basement wall?

Asked by: JOHN
GhostShield recommended that I first prime my cinder block walls with Sil-Tek 3500 before applying the 8500.

Application Temperatures

I have a set of concrete stairs that were parged and patched 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am most interested in applying 8500 sealer now to prevent any water intrusion that might freeze and cause spauling. Present daytime temperatures are running 45-50.
Asked by: John
Concrete sealer is a chemical mixture that contains particles of chemical sealant suspended in either water or a chemical solvent. Either way, the sealers have to be stored and applied at certain temperatures to be at their most effective. To begin with storage, concrete sealers should not be stored frozen, nor should they ever be at risk of freezing. A frozen concrete sealer will feature less effective particles of chemical sealant, rendering if significantly less effective when it actually is applied (though you may not be able to tell the difference). As many concrete sealers are water-based, which are undoubtedly better concrete sealing options, they are also at risk for freezing . The surface of the concrete and the environment of the room in which the concrete sealer is being applied should not dip below around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, the concrete is too cold to allow the concrete sealer to penetrate or bond to the surface effectively, depending on which type of sealer you are using. The concrete and the room in which it is being applied should not exceed approximately 90 degrees Fahrenheit either, nor should it be applied in direct sunlight.

Asked by: Ruslan
For water repellency and salt protection, our Siloxa-Tek 8500 is a great choice. Alternatively, for all the same benefits with added oil resistance, you could use our Siloxa-Tek 8505. Both of these sealers will absorb into the surface without changing the appearance, and will continue to provide excellent protection.

Can this product be used to seal an old interior brick wall to prevent dust generation/ flaking? I do not want a glossy or even a semi-gloss finish on the wall. Water infiltration is not an issue.
Asked by: Losands
Our Siloxa-Tek 8500 can certainly be used over brick; however, using a coating may be a better option to stop dusting. We would recommend something like our Cryli-Tek 5500 or our Cryli-Tek 5505.

Not only the most expensive but the directions say you need 2 coats. So you need twice as much. But if it lasts 100 years (compared to 5-8 years) it's worth it. Right? Wrong! When you read the fine print you have to reapply every 10 years. So no 100 Year Warranty-not guaranteed at all! Not worth the money! Especially when you have to really apply 3 or four coats to get the performance of one coat of competing less expensive products. I'll be surprised if it lasts 10 years.

We needed a solutions to seal a concrete porch over our garage. We have used other products in the past that inevitable failed after only a few short months. We applied this product back in April and 8 months later it is still performing exactly as it claims that it does. So far, it has lasted longer then anything else we have tried, we would recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sealer!! After cleaning the concrete and letting it dry for a day the Ghostshield went on easily and evenly with a pump sprayer. It does a great job of repelling water as it all beads up and runs off. Icy spots in the MN winter are a side affect due to the fact that it repells water so well that it freezes up in beaded up form during freeze thaw cycles. Seals concrete well! Worth the price tag so far.

I ran it through a paint sprayer (it's thinner than water) onto a 28-day old concrete foundation. Five gallons did 1000 sq ft plus some elevation-leveling cinder blocks (likely another 350 sq ft) double coat. As the name says, it's invisible. Concrete stays the same color. This stuff penetrates the surface some, but seals the surface to the point that water beads up into little balls, just like on a freshly waxed car. You can push it with a broom, or a leaf-blower, it'll roll like ball bearings. I will be doing this again on any concrete I have to deal with. What I have not done is figure out how long it will last or how much punishment it will take from a power washer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ghost Shield Ghost shield worked very well. Easy to apply and after it dries water just beads up on your concrete walkways. I have a problem with mildew in the pours of my concrete walkways this product seems to be a fix to that problem. We will see. So far so good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive but worth it I purchased and used 2 gallons to seal a new versa block patio wall -3 sides.- approximately 250 sq. ft. front and a little less on the backside - applied where not back filled yet. The product went on easily with an electric paint sprayer -2 coats wet to wet as instructed. I waited until the block was dry -3 days following a hard rain- before applying. Following application the results were remarkable. Previously saturated block was completely dry. Very impressive! One thing to note -I picked up the second gallon at home depot- when I opened it a few days later to apply there was only a half gallon in the bottle -the handle had a slight crack allowing leakage in shipment without being obvious. Home Depot replaced the bottle with no problem but would not give me the 1/2 gallon remaining to coat the front of my wall before any rain-(I knew Hazmat would dispose of this anyways) so this set me back another week since it rained 2 days later. When it arrived, I had HD open the replacement gallon before accepting it. I would highly recommend this product. Great Results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ghostshield 8500 - water is beading up on areas where product was applied Only time will tell with the product, but right now any water that hits my concrete is beading up. I first purchased Ghostshield 9500, but after reading reviews and going to the mfg website - I decided to get the 8500 instead. Note that you do not dilute the 8500 and is therefore more expensive to apply. Here are some of the things I found on Ghostshield products: Lithi-Tek LS 9500 is a simple and effective way to densify and waterproof interior or exterior concrete. Extremely popular for driveways and sidewalks as well as garages and basements when oil stains are not a primary concern. For best results, two coats are suggested. If Oil Stains are a primary concern the Ghostshield 8505 is a better choice. Ghostshield 8500 may be a better choice for customers in a Freeze Thaw area with no concerns of oil stains. QUESTION: Can this product be applied over another product? - There appears to be a primer on the concrete already. Does the primer need to be removed before applying this product or will it work 100% over the top of the primer? ANSWER You need to remove the primer before applying the Lithi-Tek LS 9500. The concrete needs to be clean and un-sealed/un-primed in order for the product to effectively penetrate and react.
