I want to purchase the Sicilian Sand for the counter tops, but my counter tops are now black. Will the sand color still show up on black counter tops or will it come out to dark?

Hello there! The color of your current counter tops won't make any difference in regards to the end result. This is because the first step of Giani is to roll on our IronCore primer-which is black. After your primer has dried, you will sponge on your Mineral paints to your liking. You can adjust them to your preference-whether that be lighter or darker-during this sponging process. Answer:
The base color in the kit is black, so you should be okay. The lighter colors cover up much/all the black...it depends on how thickly you apply the lighter colors, and there is enough to be able to achieve pretty much whatever look you're trying to achieve.

When you use the first (base) color supplied for the Sicilian Sand, it is totally black. So you'll be covering your old black with new black.
Then, depending on how light you want your counters to look, you will use the next three colors accordingly. I found that I had plenty in one kit to do a one wall counter.

My pictures show my white(ish) formica counters before, the first black base coat, then the final that I ended up with. I had left over of all colors, so I could have gone even lighter than I did.
I don't know why I can't put the pictures in the correct order here, the white should be first in the sequence, then the black, then the two final colors. Read Less

Answer:
Giani is a very easy to use Counter top Kit-You can customize Giani however you'd like, and it is simple to alter at any time. Giani is far less messy than other Counter top Kits and more reasonably priced as well. In comparison to other Counter top Kits, Giani is very low in VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and safe to use.

Answer:
It should. Go to Giani's website and watch the video. It shows the technique to use for the backsplash which will allow you to compare what you're painting to what they paint in the video to ensure you'll have enough.

The coverage area includes 35 square feet of counter tops-which is usually enough to use on the back splash as well. We recommend measuring your counter tops and back splash for your total square footage just to be safe.

It say's to use wood patch. Let dry, and then sand. I just bought some for my other counter, but have not tried it yet! I have three different counters and my first I did not have to do that. When you get the kit it does come with an DVD to watch. I also, pulled up some videos on YouTube. Hope this helps

As long as the patch adheres, is strong, level with your tops and smooth - you're good to go. If you used wood patch, apply the patch with a putty knife, metal or plastic, and allow it to build up a little higher than your surface because it will shrink as it dries. Once dry - sand the patch down with number 600 grit sandpaper from Home Depot, until it's level with the rest of your surface and smooth. Then wipe up the sanding dust with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Once dry, you may apply the standard Giani Step One primer to the patch along with the rest of your countertops. The kit says to use wood patch, although i found plaster much easier. Just apply and then sand with very fine sand paper. I had a big level difference where two of my countertops conjoin, and the paster worked wonders and the primer covers it completely. Hope this helps

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WoW! What a change! Love it! Received our Sicilian sand countertop paint kit quickly when ordered online. I opened the kit, reviewed all the documentation, went online and watched video's on web page, utube. I went out and purchased another brush, 600 grit sand paper and a small artist brush to add a crack line. Taping off the area was a MUST! Double tape any area overlapping that the roller will contact. Once I applied the black primer I waiting 10 hours before applying the sponge paint. At first I wasn't sure I applied enough to cover most of the black but after the 3 colors were applied it looked great. I did use more of the last color (white) to lighten up. Overall, looks great! Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not great for a kitchen used daily I wanted to wait a while to post a review after really seeing how the product worked. I did our countertops this time last year. I think the overall initial look was AMAZING, however, if you are someone who uses their kitchen daily to actually cook it doesn't hold up well. In all the areas not used consistently that area looks amazing as the day I did it. The area used daily has had the sealer and paint chipping away. I have had to redue that area 3 times now in the past year. I ended up touching it up again but this time instead of using their seal I bought Famowood Glaze Coat from Menards. This was harder to apply but much more durable. Otherwise I found this product great for a temporary update! December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very happy! This product was so easy to apply and was well worth every penny spent! I love the finished look and couldn't be happier. I was nervous to apply the top coat as I had heard it may be difficult if you don't pay close attention to detail but it was super simple! Would definitely recommend this product. June 7, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product We are renovating an old home and wanted to give an updated feel to the kitchen. This product worked very well and was very easy to accomplish. Highly recommend June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love How It Looks! I am not artist and have never "sponged" anything in my life. I do home repairs because of my budget and there was no way for me to be able to afford new counter tops. I had green laminate and it was completely horrible. I had repainted my kitchen and the melamine cabinets to shades of blue and cream. Came across this alternative for counter tops and love the look. It is not granite by any means and if you look closely you can tell. I am still in the 2 week "baby them" time frame, but they look amazing. Hopefully they will stand up to the test of time. I even got my 13 yr old to help from start to finish. I was told that the odor from this product was horrible; and that just isn't true. About the same as painting the walls. The one thing I would suggest is remove your sink; don't just go around it. For a first timer like me it seemed daunting, but it isn't that hard and is well worth the extra time and inconvenience. You'll be glad you did. Have fun! January 13, 2016
