how long before counter can be used in normal manner? AND in bathroom ,how long before shower can be used without harm to countertop on sink?

Asked by: thomas
After 24 hours of top coat application, you may lightly use your surface. After 3 days, you may set appliances on your surface such as a microwave, knife holder ect. After 14 days, you may clean your countertop and use as normal. In bathroom, after 1-2 days, you may use shower. Be sure to ventilate the room if possible.

If I like the look of just the black primer can I just use that and seal it or do I have to use all the other paints as well?
Asked by: notnormal
My husband also liked just the black primer, but I would recommend putting the final sealer (final step) on the counter top. However, it will make the counter top shiny.

This was a lot of work but well worth it for the money. I needed 2 kits and had some left over. The hardest part is the curve from the counter going up to the backsplash and the top of the backsplash. I used artist brushes in that area. I had lots of extra sponges from a previous project and those came in handy. I also bought extra roller brushes. I put 3 top coats on. I had a little trouble with the roller leaving skip marks but nothing too major. I recommend removing your sink & faucet if possible. I did not and it was very hard to work around that area. I highly recommend this if you're on a budget! I hope the pictures I uploaded turn out. I had to resize some.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not waste your money on this kits. Home Depot has everything you need for individual paints that will only cost you 1/4 of the price. What a profitable business!!! A few cans of paint, a sponge and 2 paint rollers that sells $80. If I knew it, I would just purchase the single individual paint and other stuffs from Homedepot, it will only costs $20. Regarding the last step of clear coating, if you follow the instruction by using the enclosed paint roller, it will not yield good result. Paint spray will have a better result. It is just NOT worth to spend that money to buy a package like this. Search from YouTube, there are several videos that do not use this kits and have the same results. Don't waste your money. Just go to Home Depot to pick up the small individual paints.

When it says to practice and start on a small spot do it. As we went along some parts were too dark and some too light. The good part is you can go back and fix mistakes by adding black or color as needed. Use very little paint on your sponge at a time, dab off extra well. If sponge is too heavy with paint it looks more like painted with a brush. This can be fixed by dabbing with black to cover. Remember with this less is best!!

While it does still look better than the laminate we went over, it's not as smooth as the laminate. Best description I can think of is an orange peel finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love how it turned out! I covered an L-shaped, smooth kitchen counter and two textured bathroom sink counters and still had some of each product left over. The paints cover very well and easily, and the instructions were straightforward and simple to follow. It took me about 24-28 hours including overnight drying time to complete the job on all three surfaces. The overall resulting look of the countertops is very attractive considering that it's painted and not really granite and the fact that I was a newbie. LOL I'm very pleased; I just hope my potential house buyers will be, too! :-)

We watched a lot of videos on how to apply which I highly recommend before starting. It was easy but a little time consuming so make sure you have at least 2-3 days. It is very important to be random when doing the applying technique. We found that what we thought were mistakes actually looked more like the desired look we were going for, also mixing the colors is good. Adding a little black here & there if you get an area that is too solid or light & adding veins makes it look more natural. People are amazed that it is a painting technique. It saved us a lot of money, around $1500, so we were able to update our kitchen even more! It's like having a brand new kitchen... We love it!!!
